How to Enjoy the Holidays When You’re Single

Many of us think of the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year Holidays as “Family” holidays. Children who left for college return home to celebrate. Families reunite at Mom and Dad’s house as the cousins and siblings exchange gifts, stories, and create warm memories to cherish. So what happens to the person who does not have a spouse (or a child) to celebrate the holidays with?

1. Spend as much time as possible with family members and close friends over the Holiday season. Accepting invitations for dinner, brunch, to parties and so on should definitely be on the list. Never isolate yourself just because you’re single.

2. Get in the holiday spirit! If you love being in the kitchen, try out some holiday recipes that you can share with a group of friends. Go ice-skating, attend a tree-lighting ceremony, go caroling, or create a snowman! Have fun!

3. Host at least one holiday gathering. Consider having a potluck event where everyone brings a dish or dessert. Pop in a holiday-themed DVD for a few laughs (or tears!) as you create amazing memories together!

4. Spend some time window-shopping (or holiday shopping) in village outlets, or in New York City if you are close by. The beautiful decorations and joyous atmosphere can bring excitement and happiness to your heart.

5. Make it your priority to enjoy the holidays while single! Share these special moments with those who mean the most to you so you can create amazing memories.
