Everyone is planning or thinking about their next vacation. Whether it’s a spring break trip or the family’s summer vacation, you have to admit it has crossed your mind. We’ve put together a few tips to make sure your hotel stay is fabulous and incident free.
One of our savvy BMWK readers recently shared a fabulous and crucial travel tip with us. Dieidre Askew suggests that every traveler know the address of their hotel in case of an emergency. Not knowing this information or having it handy will cause a delay in police or medical personnel responding in an emergency.
Here are a few more hotel safety tips:
- When traveling to your vacation destination, do not discuss your lodging information with any strangers or with travel partners in open/public areas. You never know who is listening. Criminals are masters at seizing opportunities.
- Request a room/suite on floors 3-5. Security officials/authorities suggest these floors because they will keep you out of reach of criminal activity but within reach of fire truck ladders if the event of a fire.
- Do not discuss your room number in the lobby or on elevators. If you’re shopping in the hotel gift shop or spa, dining at the onsite restaurant and charge your purchase/service to your room, do not say your room number out loud. Write your hotel number down on a piece of paper and give it to the clerk and then take it with you and destroy it yourself.
- Familiarize yourself with all exits and escape routes so you will be prepared in the event of an emergency.
- Keep your hotel room neat so that you will notice quickly if anything has been disturbed or is missing.
- Place all valuables (jewelry or passports/travel documents) in the room’s safe.
- Our last tip comes from ‘The Style Medic.’ Once you’re in your room, make sure that all windows and adjoining doors are locked. Also take a peak under the bed for unwanted guests.
