No Time For Romance? New Site Launched By BMWK Writer Helps Nip That Idea In The Bud

Here are BMWK we have about 10 writers on staff and we’re not just in it for the pageviews. We honestly do believe in the power of marriage and what healthy marriages can do for our lives, our kids and our communities. Case in point: Aja Dorsey Jackson, who has been contributing the weekly Celeb Marriage Scene, along with poignant insights on being part of a blended family. She recently launched a new website, Makimg Love in the Microwave, for those couples who are short on time but want to make the most of those fleeting moments. Of course we had to sit down with her and get the scoop on how even the busiest couples can wring out romance in their daily lives:

What prompted you to start Making Love in the Microwave?

I decided to start the blog because I realized that from the beginning of our marriage my husband and I would talk about doing things together: taking trips, planning date nights etc., and ultimately end up putting those things off for when we “would have more time.” I came to realize after a few years of marriage that our free time hasn’t done anything but dwindle even more, and if we kept pushing our love life aside waiting for more time, we would never end up spending any time together. I saw the same thing happening in the lives of many of my friends and wanted to find a way to help busy couples learn how to make time for one another, even with crazy schedule demands.

What do you hope people will take away from the site?

I want people to understand that no matter what your situation, you can make time to connect with one another. You don’t need to have a whole lot of time or a whole lot of money to make your marriage a priority if you devote some time each day to your spouse. I hope to share some practical tips to help people begin to find the extraordinary in those everyday moments.

What are your plans for the site? Featuring couples who make it work? Daily tips? Accompanying BlogTalkRadio show, etc?

Wow! So many things to think about. The site will definitely feature daily tips since it’s built around that theme. I also plan to feature couples on a regular basis who are making it work, specifically couples that work or own businesses together, because I think that adds an additional layer to the practical side of daily marriage maintenance. I’m definitely toying with the idea of pulling it all into a book at some point. Blog Radio? I don’t know but stay tuned!

You’re a busy woman, mom of two. What’s your overall message for making time for love on a daily basis?

My overall message is that just like weight management, hygeine, organization, or gardening, the state of our marriages comes down to how we’re maintaining them on a regular basis. No one would occasionally take a few weeks off from brushing their teeth and expect to have a good situation happening in their mouth. When it comes to marriage, sometimes we feel we can just neglect it for periods of time and have everything run smoothly but it doesn’t work like that. Our marriage isn’t made up of 10, 20, or 50 years; it’s made up of the decisions that we make every day of those years, and I think if we can pay attention to that, we’ll begin laying a better foundation.
