My Chick Bad…Oh Really?

I have to admit, every time Ludacris’ “My Chick Bad” comes on the radio – I listen to it. All the way through. I like it.

Now that we got that out the way, and you’re finished throwing tomatoes – the point of my post.

I like that song, but man, how many times can I hear a song about why a chick (a “chick,” not a “woman”) is the baddest because of what she can do in the bedroom and how wild and down she is?

I’m all about a message in your music but what message does this send? I want my son to think of women in terms of their beauty, strength, intelligence, sense of humor, etc. Not necessarily getting stuck on how she makes him feel down below.

After President Obama got elected, every single woman I know said she was looking for her Barack. But how many men were looking for a Michelle? A strong, crazy smart woman who is as accomplished as he is, and who also knows how to be stylish without looking like a whore.

Let’s raise our standards on what makes “My Chick Bad.” Got a dope education? Knows how to make a dollar stretch? Supportive and loyal even when the situation isn’t too bright in your favor? That’s a bad chick.
