The Marital 7 Year Itch is Now 10 Years; 5 Tips and Strategies to Avoid it

There is a recent article published titled, “Forget the 7-year itch – research says it’s now 10 to 15 years.” The article is saying a new study shows that marriages are not experiencing the 7 year itch – where challenges begin to surface and husband and wife are not as happy as they used to be, this is now being experienced at around year 10-15 according to Brigham Young University findings.

The article says that “marital happiness rebounds…but it never rebounds to the original levels.”

This is a great article because it offers food for thought and lets you know what to guard your marriage against. I beg to differ with the findings. I believe marital happiness and fulfillment can rebound to its original levels. For that matter the level of happiness and fulfillment does not have to dip, leaving no need for a rebound.

I have not conducted a study as the writers of the referenced article have; yet, I have been around enough happy couples who have passed the 7 to 15 year mark. They did not experience a lull in their happiness and were not disappointed in their marriage. Let me offer a few tips; five to be exact. These are tips that I have observed over the years in marriages around me as well as in my own marriage; I am coming up on 28 years of marriage.
