Travel Tuesday: New Year’s Resolution – To See The World!

2012 is finally here! A lot of us are contemplating that dreaded New Year’s resolution, to lose weight or find a new job. At BWMK we have a resolution for you that will make you happy and get you out of the house”...better yet, out of the country. Make the resolution to travel more and see our beautiful world!

It’s the perfect resolution and one that you will enjoy achieving. We have a few tips to get you started on this fun New Year’s resolution.

Tip #1 ““ Create a Vacation Fund. Open a special bank account (without a debit card) for your vacation fund. Some credit unions and banks have special accounts for this purpose with the option of payroll deduction (as little as $5 per pay period). Get the fund off to a great start by depositing half of your tax refund and by cutting back on one expense in addition to your payroll contribution. For example if you stop by your favorite coffee house daily and spend $4 on a specialty drink, that’s $20 per week. If you cut that out and make coffee at work/home every day you will save $80 per month. That’s $960 per year towards your vacation fund!

Tip #2 ““ Shop around for the best deal. You must take advantage of the internet specials and deals when shopping for anything these days especially vacations. Price compare between the top travel search engines Kayak, Travelocity, Expedia and Orbitz. Also, don’t forget popular sites like Hotels.com and GetaRoom.com. Also check out your favorite airline as most of them also have discounted vacation packages. Join the email list of JetBlue, Southwest, Delta and American. All of these airlines feature discount vacation packages weekly.

Tip #3 ““ Strongly consider cruises and all-inclusive vacations. Our not-so secret mission on BMWK is to get you on a cruise in 2012, LOL! Cruises are a fabulous way to visit an exotic destination without breaking the bank. All cruise lines run specials throughout the year to great destinations sometimes as low as $249 per person. All-inclusive resorts and packages are excellent because (normally) everything is included in that one price (airfare, food, accommodations). Great vacations at one fabulous price.

Tip #4 ““ Join a travel membership club. Travel membership clubs became extremely popular in 2011 because of the great deals they offered on exotic destinations. The top clubs (in my opinion) are JetSetter, Vacationist and Spire. Deals are exclusive to members. Membership pays and its free! Even daily discount clubs are getting in on the travel frenzy. Living Social and Groupon also offer weekly travel deals to its members. Don’t miss out!

Make the resolution to see and share our beautiful world. I promise it’s a resolution you can live with and enjoy.

Happy New Year BMWK Family!
