Video: 7 New Dos for the New Year, No Cut Required

A year ago, I decided to chop all of my 12 inch curly hair goodness in pursuit of the perfect tapered cut. I began my search on Pinterest and YouTube, my old standbys, and finally came upon the cut that matched my vision: low on the sides and major hang time on the top.

For me, it set the tone for my year of living fearlessly, and it showed the world a new me they had never seen before. I started clothing shopping for my new hair, and buying new earrings to go with my mane. Then something unexpected happened, I began trying new foods, reading new kinds of books, and opening myself up to new career opportunities, including writing for Black and Married with Kids. Such a small change on the outside was the catalyst for a major shift on the inside.

Now, not everyone needs to go for a big chop in order to get a fresh new do for the year. YouTube is home to hundreds of no sheers necessary video tutorials with step-by-step instructions for those looking to break out of the ponytail rut. The only thing that matters is, that you step outside your comfort zone. You may be surprised what you find out there.

Here are 7 cut tutorials to get your juices flowing. If you like a look, click on the YouTube link for more ideas.
