[Video] Yes, Black Men are Passionate About Fatherhood

We don’t often see a “good father” spoken of quite like this. Although this video of Prentice Powell delivering his poem “Good Father” surfaced last year on the Arsenio Hall show, I am not sure how many of us actually had an opportunity to view it and receive this message.  It is too powerful of a piece not to share.

There is just something about the passion of a black father that I don’t think the world gets to experience very often. This video moved me to tears because there are too many assumptions about fatherhood in our communities. I agree with the opinion shared in this powerful piece.

We assume someone is a great parent, but we never know the real story or even how they wish to be doing even more. We also underestimate the love of a father and the need to be present in their child’s life. Can you imagine the impact on society if we were to replace the negative we always hear about black fathers, with positive images of black men, who are proud to be fathers? Fathers who are passionate about the role and love their children unconditionally. Fathers who actually boast about being a father and speaks positively about their children.

This video is an excellent reminder of how we need to review and change some of the stereotypical thoughts we place on black fathers.
