What Does Your Negative Facebook Status Say About You?

In 2014, we as singles are facing more challenges when it comes to expressing ourselves online.  We’ve all seen it. The friend on Facebook (or yourself) who posts a status update bashing the opposite sex after a breakup/bad day, using some cliché statement in the spirit of hurt and bitterness, then proceeding to change their relationship status immediately back to “single.”

There’s something about the Facebook status update and its amount of free space that one has to explain why they don’t trust females this week or maybe it’s the best soapbox online since Twitter’s limit 140 characters. Instagram is getting popular with this too. What we declare in our status updates can be temporary feelings of happiness or anger, but whatever the case may be, it’s up there forever. What you put on social media represents you to others on the Internet, so be cautious on what you declare regarding your love life.

I personally know people who have said that they probably won’t ever get married, be in a long term relationship or have kids. It seems as if they lost hope in that aspect because of the challenging reality for singles out here. I can assure you that there are plenty of good men and women out there, you have to be in a place to receive them in your life, and that begins with what you think, believe, and do.

Think: Take a moment to think about what you are going to post about yourself and another person. It’s not mature to be subliminal or air out other people’s dirty laundry, especially when you share friends. Refrain from posting in anger, for the word says to “Be angry but sin not” so don’t go on a tangent only to regret it the next day… because the damage has been done. Even if you try to delete it from your account, that status was still seen by someone; it doesn’t matter if you delete it, so use wisdom.

While you are thinking and believing that men/women are no good, you are setting yourself up to meet just those kind of people.

Believe: Everyone deserves to be happy. Do you believe this for yourself? If that happiness includes being married one day, ask God for guidance and read His word about marriage. If that is something you desire, go to the Father in prayer. While you are thinking and believing that men/women are no good, you are setting yourself up to meet just those kind of people. If you desire to date, be married and start a family, you can’t live discouraged but claim belief. Belief requires faith, and faith is the “substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” as stated in Hebrews 11:1.

Do: We have to be careful what we say and post because it’s not only a reflection of ourselves, but of God. Proverbs 18:21 is “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” If you are tired of dating the wrong kind of people, speak positive things over your life, not negative. Refraining from saying and posting negative things about the opposite sex can not only benefit you spiritually, it will make you more attractive and mature to take the high road. Also, break the connections you have with the type of people that you don’t want to be around anymore; there’s always an opportunity for a fresh start.

Family, it may seem like it’s taking longer to get what you want out of life and relationships, but trust that when your mind is right, you believe the promises of God, and you speak good news and affirmations over your life, you will begin to see more of what you really wanted all around you. Jesus said “Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 18:18. You can alter your destiny with the beginning step of changing the way you think. And think before you post.
