What I Learned About Life from Candy Crush

When I’m bored or just need to give my brain a rest from all this doggone thinking, I play the popular and addictive game Candy Crush. As I was playing today, I realized just how un-bothered I am when I lose a game or have to wait hours upon hours for more lives.

I got to thinkin’ (dang brain), how much less stressed out would I be if I could be this unfazed in other areas of my life? I promise there was no alcohol or other controlled substances involved in this epiphany. But seriously, I think there are a some lessons in this game that if applied to real life, we’d all be much less stressed.

Before you put me in a room with padded walls, gimme a chance to explain. Here are some Candy Crush lessons that can help us win in real life:

1. Remember the path to success is not straight: Just like the twisty turny road with different challenges in the game, life brings us challenges that we must face in order to continue on our journeys. It’s not always smooth sailing but it can be fun and we’ll pick up new skills along the way.

2. You are not alone: In the game, when you run out of lives, you can ask your friends to help you out. In life, when we are down and don’t have the strength to hold ourselves up, we can call on a loved one to offer us a boost.

3. Impatience will cost you: If you decide not to ask a friend for help, you can quickly get more time on your own but it’ll cost you. Sometimes we want to rush through certain situations or decisions instead of being patient. In life just as in the game, the quick and easy way ain’t always the best way.

4. Tomorrow is another chance to start over: When you lose in the game, you may have to wait a full 24 hours before you can play again. In life, no matter how bad your day was, the sun will rise on a brand new day and a brand new chance to do better tomorrow.

There you have it. Life lessons from a game. I promise I’m not crazy…
