What Makes My Man Sexy

Who would have thought a black man leaving home for work in the morning would be a turn on? Lately, I’ve been checking my man out on the way out the door. He’s dressed nicely, smells good, and determined not to be late. It’s the same routine Monday ““ Friday, yet I’m not feeling the same way I felt about it before we married.

While dating, my boyfriend (now husband) and I were just grateful for jobs. Even after the honeymoon, a job was more of a requirement than a turn on. Both of us went to work, brought home paychecks, and tried to make ends meet. Although things haven’t changed much in terms of maintaining consistent employment, what has changed is how I view my husband’s contribution to the family. He isn’t just a breadwinner anymore; now he’s a fine black man who works hard for his family without complaining.

That’s sexy to me.

What’s also sexy is when he decides to ride in the backseat with our daughter so they can play games on the iPod. Watching their interactions in the rearview mirror, I get overwhelmed with gratefulness for such an amazing husband. His sexiness intensifies when I see him reading his Bible, praying, or encouraging others with a word. Sometimes I wonder if God objects to me thinking romantically about my husband as he kneels at the altar, but then I remember that it was God who created intimacy between a husband and a wife. He’s more than pleased when our spirits, souls, and bodies align with His word and with each other.

Even taking out the trash for early morning pick up makes my heart flutter. Why? Because truth be told, he  doesn’t  have to do it ““not during a thunderstorm or in 20 degree weather. But he does it anyway. He goes to work  anyway. He goes to the store to buy my feminine products  anyway. He attempts to dress our daughter and comb her hair  anyway. He checks the doors for me in the middle of the night  anyway. He loves me despite my moods and flaws  anyway.

That’s what real men do. And real men are sexy.

Marrying a good man has changed my desires and expectations. I could care less about “Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome.” I am satisfied and hopelessly in love with a man who honors me as his wife, adores his child, and provides for his family. If that’s not sexy, I don’t know what is.
