Why This Was the Best Vacation Ever…Without My Husband

Disclosure: I’m a Blogger Ambassador for Hilton Hotels® and I received a complimentary 2-night hotel stay at Homewood Suites Hotels. As always, all opinions are my own.

I just came back from a great family vacation with the kids. Unfortunately, my husband was not able to attend because he was holding it down in the office while I held it down with the kids (#TeamWork).

The kids and I drove to my hometown in the Tidewater Area of Virginia and we spent a few days with my parents and siblings. So even though we were missing daddy very much, we had a ball. And here’s why.

We stayed at the Homewood Suites in Williamsburg, VA

Before arriving at my parents’ home, we stayed in a suite at the Homewood Suites hotel in Williamsburg, VA for a few days . And we had so much fun relaxing! We love that the suite was clean and well decorated, and spacious. There were LOTS of amenities such as a pool and free breakfast. My mother and nieces even came up to visit us for a few days in our suite. And we just chilled and did site seeing around Colonial Williamsburg.

From the moment we walked into the very inviting lobby, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Homewood Suites by Hilton Williamsburg in Williamsburg, VA. Here are photos from our room before we junked it up with our luggage, pillows, blankets and snacks. We had plenty of space to entertain my parents when they came over to visit us.

We went fishing with my Dad.

Every summer, my Dad (the kids call him G-Daddy) takes the kids on a fishing trip. This is all that my kids talked about all year: “Are we going fishing with G-Daddy?” We didn’t catch many fish. In fact, we caught more crabs than fish. But the memories that we shared will last a lifetime.

Thank goodness we had a nice spacious suite to return to after the fishing trip. We took showers and just relaxed in the room. The kids had their space to talk and watch TV and I had my space to relax and get caught up with my mom.

The yearly fishing trip with G-Daddy is something that my kids look forward to all year. We are on a pier in Gloucester, VA. My kids, nieces, nephew, and I truly enjoyed this sunny day.

Missing my husband was good for my marriage.

Finally, there’s nothing wrong with a brief separation from your spouse. It gives the two of you a chance to focus on self. (In this instance, my husband had a chance to relax without us, because I was still focused on the kids.) And missing your spouse makes you realize just how much you love him…which makes re-uniting with your spouse that much sweeter.

Thank you to Homewood Suites hotels for making this vacation getaway possible for my family. And also for making it easier for all families to get together via the Count on It campaign – an initiative to help make your family reunion easy and stress-free for all participants.
