Your future spouse is a real person. I came into the understanding of that when God began to impress upon me to pray for my future spouse, and it changed everything. Instead of me praying for specific things that I had no control over such as certain physical attributes and type of person they would be. I accepted God had someone for me that was living and breathing, so that person needed my prayers that would help her (versus praying for things I couldn’t change.)
Here are 3 prayers that will help your future spouse as God is preparing you both for one another.
1. Growing in Their Relationship with God
John 14:21 “Those who accept my commands, and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to them.
This is the most important prayer your future spouse needs. Praying they are growing in their relationship with God will result in them making wise decisions, their heart staying clear of build up from daily life, and them discovering who God has called them to be. The first thing I prayed for each time when I covered my future spouse in prayer was that she was not only a lover of God, but proactively growing in her relationship with God
2. Progressing in their Purpose for Their Life
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, they are plans for good and not for disaster.”
The purpose of God is on your life, and your future spouse’s life. If they are living their life according to that, then with the right timing, your paths will cross. I teach heavily on this subject because it is the desire of every person whether they are believers or not, they all want direction towards their “purpose”. Your prayers for them to be progressing in their purpose will assist them in choosing a career path in alignment with their passions, serve actively whether at church or in the community, and live their lives with the future in mind.
3. Protection from Counterfeits
Proverbs 16:25, There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.
A counterfeit is someone that comes very closely to the real thing, but isn’t. They may be attractive, but a bum that doesn’t want to work. Or, a well established person making great money, but doesn’t have an active relationship with God. This prayer came more because I was beginning to recognize counterfeits arising in my life. Women who peaked my curiosity, but there was no peace to pursue. If I would have been anxious, I would have possibly pursued them. But, I felt the confidence to wait on God. Now, being married, and hearing my wife say she prayed this over me gives me confirmation I had help. My wife has many stories of guys being interested in her, but she turned them all down either because of dreams from God, an unsettlement in her spirit, or the relationship not progressing. I was my wife’s first committed relationship, her first kiss, and the rest is history. Those prayers worked!
