Many of our Butterflies have recently returned back to their natural hair and are ready to rock their Teeny Weeny Afros (TWA) with style. I always hear there are just not enough TWA style videos out there to keep our short hair sisters styling and profiling. Then it came to me, I needed to find the best of the best in TWA style videos. I’m talking about styling that is easy, cute, and packs a whole lot of ButterFlyNess. There was only one place to find such material, YouTube. But first, I needed to be able to judge these videos based off of some type of criteria. Oh yeah, it got serious. The videos for TWA styling couldn’t just be about a Butterfly and her camera, she had to bring it and when I say “it” I mean the style in the video had to speak for itself.
All videos were judged on the same criteria:
- Personality of the YouTuber
- Great ending style
- Awesome lighting
- Clear Steps
- Length of Video (I don’t have 13 mins for any style video)

#1: My Natural Sistas: Defined Curls TWA Pixie Hairstyle on Natural Hair
I loved everything about this video. It was clear, to the point, and done in under 5 minutes. I loved the zoom in of the hair and her results were amazing. Now, where is my gel and denman brush? I wonder if this would work on longer hair lengths. Nothing beats a fail but a try.
#2: SistersWithBeauty: Big Chop Styles
Just to show there was no favoritism in this pick, I made it second. This video makes me want to cut my hair again just so I can part my hair from ear to ear and place a headband in between.
#3: Sadora Paris: 6 Ways to Spice up Your TWA Hairstyle
I loved her confidence. No matter what style she did with her hair, it was her confidence that was the leading style in this video. I go crazy for a hat and a bold lip, this video won me over.
#4: Mee Mahril: Styling a Twa
I think I miss these moments. Why do TWAs have to grow out so fast? I would do finger coils all day, never really did the whole shingle with products, but I still enjoyed the ease of styling. She had great results with this style. I could see this style lasting for about 2-4 days before the need to refresh.
#5: Jouelzy: Best Ever Roller Set on 4C Natural Hair
Before anyone screams foul on my last video pick, I know Jouelzy didn’t do the style, but her hair results were amazing. Seeing this video should make you run out to buy as many cold wave rods as you can to recreate this style.
