Feature | Matching Tattoos for Couples…Is It a Do or a Don’t? | matching tattoos for married couples | couple tattoos

Are couple tattoos indicative of true love or just a silly phase of infatuation? Getting inked is something you need to think about over and over again. It’s permanent art on your body, which means that it should mean something special for you to wear it every day of your life. Let’s talk about the pros and cons of matching him and her tattoos and what design you can start with.

Should You Try Couple Tattoos or Not?

Celebrity Couple Tattoos

My husband and I have toyed with the idea of small, discreet matching tattoos ever since we were dating. This has now been over a decade. But, neither of us have actually pushed the other one to the point of getting inked. We’ve admired (from afar) celebrity couples like Jay-Z and Beyonce and Eva Longoria and Tony (who have since split) who sport these matching tattoos for married couples, but is it a sign of real commitment or just a silly stunt?

The Pros and Cons of Having Matching Tattoos for Spouses

On one hand, I get it. True love feels great. It’s euphoric. It sometimes makes you do silly things. I remember reading an article that said true (authentic) love at first has the same effects on the brain as cocaine. So, this is probably the reasoning behind the desire for such a strong statement of lasting love.

I personally think it’s adorable to see couples with matching him and her tattoos. What’s even sexier is the couple choosing something that means something secretively special to them and only them.

On the other hand, I am a little apprehensive, I guess. Getting inked with your spouse’s name, even if you’re really in love just may not be the smartest idea. Nobody ever wants to think that when they say, “I do” it won’t last.

Having someone else’s name on your body could end up needing a cover-up, to be morphed into something totally different, leaving that “mistake” you made unrecognizable. That’s why these things have to be well thought out. Who wants to be reminded of an ex every time you take a shower? Not a good look.

Start Small

Perhaps, the workaround for this apprehension is the ink has to be something small and not a name, but a symbol that can be left alone even after a breakup. Small matching tattoos for husband and wife will be a great start.

If you have your own reservations about matching love tattoos for boyfriend and girlfriend, you might not be the person to whom I’m referencing this question. But if you’re a fan of body art, you may be thinking like me.

Do you take the plunge and profess your love to the world with these everlasting stamps of commitment or do you have reservations and entertain the thoughts of most realists, “What happens if we break up?” You never want to approach your relationship from that angle. But hey, I guess those who took the second trip to the tattoo parlor [after the split] never thought they would be there either.
