- Grateful. Form a family circle. Go around the circle and have each person say what they are thankful for. You may hear some interesting things. It’s okay. Let the children share their heart openly.
- Fun and Fireworks. If you have leftover fireworks from the 4th of July and your state allows them, shoot your leftovers. Sparkle up the night sky. (This year buy some extra fireworks in July and save them until New Year’s). Fireworks make everything fun.
- Game Day. Have a family game day – play your favorite board games together. Let each person choose a game. It could be anything from Candyland to Spades. If youngsters are too small for certain games, be creative and play in teams. Match a younger person with an adult.
- Give Back. Serve as a family in a soup kitchen or food pantry. It will be a great experience for the whole family. Teach the children how to serve.
- Lazy Movie Day. Watch the big parades on TV or have a movie day. If a lazy day is what you are looking for, rent the family’s favorite movies and curl up in front of the TV and call it a day.
- Snacks. Make special snacks to go with your movies. Try this one Stawberrylucious Poppers.
- Create. Make a time capsule, place notes, goals, things you want to remember, pictures, etc. inside the time capsule and hide it away until next New Year. It will be fun to make and it creates an activity for next year when you open the time capsule together and go through the contents.
