12 Years a Slave, the powerful, award-winning film depicting the true story of Solomon Northup, is going to be incorporated into public high school curriculums across the nation beginning September 2014. This is according to the National School Boards Association recent press release.
Coordinated by former talk show host, Montel Williams, the initiative is a partnership between the National School Boards Association, New Regency, Penguin Books, and the filmmakers behind 12 Years a Slave. Incorporating it into the curriculum in public high schools will include distribution of the film, book, and study guide.
According to Williams, “When Hollywood is at its best, the power of the movies can be harnessed into a powerful educational tool. This film uniquely highlights a shameful period in American history, and in doing so will evoke in students a desire to not repeat the evils of the past while inspiring them to dream big of a better and brighter future, and I’m proud to be a part of that,”
After receiving so much recognition in Hollywood, it’s great to see an initiative designed to share this powerful story and the role it plays in our history with our youth.

Hmm it appears like your website ate my first comment (it
was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I
submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything.
Do you have any helpful hints for rookie blog writers?
I’d definitely appreciate it.
