It is that time of the year when you decide to be intentional about the upcoming year and establish your goals for 2016. Many people launch their goals by creating a vision board – a montage of photos which reflects their desired outcome.
But sadly, many of those same people fail to achieve their goals. Why? Because they neglected to incorporate two simple steps: an action plan and an implementation strategy. A dream without a plan is just a dream.
However a dream with an action plan and a strategy, is much closer to becoming a reality. This year, create a successful vision board by implementing key strategies; which will help turn your 2016 vision board dreams into a reality.
Vision Board Pre-work
- First determine the theme of your vision board. Will this board represent your overall 2016 goals or will you create a separate board for each goal, e.g. relationship board, career board, motivational board, etc.
- Next write out the goals which you would like to highlight on your vision board.
- Next to each goal, establish a plan of action describing how you will achieve these goals.
- Under the action plan, create a strategy listing ways to implement your action plan.
Tools, Supplies & Next Steps
With the creation of Pinterest, you can choose to create your vision board digitally or create your board the old school way, with poster board, old magazines, scissors, and glue.
Select pictures which represent the completion of your goals. In addition, if possible, select pictures which highlight key steps from your action plan to help you achieve your goals.
For example, if your desire is to buy a new car, select a picture of the car of your choice. If you know you need to save money and/or payoff debt in order to reach this goal, select pictures which represent these steps as well.
Arrange the pictures of your goals and the necessary action to achieve these goals side by side. Next to the picture of your desired goal write the date in which you desire to reach your goal.
Once you complete your vision board, create a vision board calendar. On the calendar mark your projected completion date along with any key action plan dates; which need to be completed in order to reach your end goal.
Post Vision Board Creation
Position the vision board in a place where you can see it daily. At the bottom or on the side of the vision board attach your vision board calendar.
This way, each time you see the board, you will also see your call to action – the sub goals you created to reach your end goals. By placing these action items next to your goals, you are reminding yourself of the steps you need to take to make your dream a reality.
By planning, doing the work and keeping the vision before you; you are choosing to be intentional and win in 2016. I wish you much success in the coming year and beyond. I pray that all your dreams come true.
