The 4th of July holiday should be fun for the entire family, that includes Mom, Dad and the kids. Mom should not be slaving away the entire day cooking meals and preparing the house for company (unless she enjoys that kind of thing.) Likewise, Dad should not spend his day vacuuming, cooking, or fighting the flames on the grill (unless that’s his cup of tea.) Finally, the kids should not spend the day bored because they are the only kids at a cookout full of adults.
So here are 3 ways to ensure the entire family enjoys the day:
Great Food and Drinks:
Instead of cooking all day, how about having great picnic items such as ham and cheese on sweet Hawaiian rolls, chips, pasta salads, fresh fruit or fruit cups, and desserts. You can even add some delicious fried chicken and rolls from the closest deli.
And don’t forget to keep plenty of water and delicious drinks in your cooler. This year, we plan to serve V8 Splash® Lemonade. We absolutely love lemonade…and V8 Splash® Lemonade gives us that great lemonade flavor, plus it’s an excellent source of Vitamin C and only 80 calories per 8 ounce glass. My kids love fruit juices. So, I couldn’t have been happier to find that they love the taste of the new V8 Splash® Lemonade.
Great Family and Friends:
For the last few years, Lamar and I have invited couples (with kids) that we love spending time with to a picnic at the pool. Each family brings their own picnic basket and cooler full of the items that I mentioned above. And we have fun all day at the pool, enjoying good food and good company. If you don’t have a pool in your neighborhood, consider a local park or a public pool.
Great Fireworks:
We usually leave the pool in the late afternoon…this gives us enough time to shower, wash hair, and take naps before the fireworks begin. The 4th of July is not the same without a great fireworks show. And since we try to keep our day stress free, we usually visit our local show, rather than going to downtown Atlanta to the big one with the crowds and traffic and such.
We also pack the remainder of our picnic items with us in the cooler. What’s more enjoyable than sitting on the lawn, eating snacks, and sipping Lemonade with your family and friends while watching a spectacular fireworks show on the 4th of July.
V8 Splash® Lemonade offers a fun and refreshing twist to a classic summer drink. Fueled with an excellent source of vitamin C, each 8-ounce glass contains 80 calories per serving — making it a delicious, crisp seasonal favorite.
BMWK – How do you plan to make the 4th of July fun for your entire family?
