Marriage is the process by which two become ONE! Well, it is a lot easier for those two to become one when they understand the parts of themselves that refuse to surrender. When you know yourself well, you can acknowledge where you need Christ to overcome your weaknesses with His strength. It makes the merger of two individuals a piece of cake.
The first few years of marriage are the most difficult for those who refuse to give up and surrender to God’s inventive method for Christ-likeness. Learning yourself is best done in the environment of healthy friendships, volunteering in various capacities, and by allowing the Word of God to reveal those hidden things in your heart fighting against selfless living.
Stay true to who God created you to be. You are His masterpiece and He takes great pride in you. Every second spent comparing yourself to others robs you of precious moments you could be thanking God for what He has invested in you. The part of you that is most unlike others is what makes you valuable to those around you. We need the real you!
15 Questions to help you learn more about yourself
From my experience one of the most time worthy investments that have yielded more money and value into my life has been the investment of learning who I am in Christ. The more I understand about my God created DNA make up, the more I am able to unlock keys to prophetic perspective about my destiny. I ask myself these DNA unlocking questions:
- What invigorates me?
- What do I naturally spend much of my time doing?
- What type of people am I naturally drawn to?
- What type of people do I not like being around?
- What are my unhealthy habits? Why do I continue to do them?
- Why do my closest friends keep me as their friend?
- What do I go to sleep and wake up thinking about?
- What things bring me to complete boredom?
- What do people say about me after meeting me for the first time?
- What would 1 week of my life look like if I could do anything without distractions?
- What have been the most challenging moments of my life?
- Where have I wasted the most time?
- What prophetic or encouraging words spoken over me have come to pass?
- What am I proficient at naturally? What would that skill look like developed?
- Who are the most inspiring people to me? Why?
After taking the time to ask yourself these questions, then follow up by talking with your closest friends to see if they can help you further understand yourself by looking at your answers. We all have blind spots in our lives that require others who know us to point out the areas we can’t see. These questions are the beginning to discovering the person God created you to be.
