Becoming a father was one of the most important moments of my life. I didn’t have an active father in my own life, so I didn’t have a full scope of the impact fatherhood would have on my life. But now I can see how fatherhood has blessed my life immeasurably. I can honestly say that when a baby is born, a father is born, and there’s nothing like the unconditional love that a baby can give.
When a baby is born, a father is born.
As a part of Pampers Father’s Day program, I’m encouraging all dads to take a moment and reflect on all the laughs, challenges and incredible feelings that come along with fatherhood and say #ThanksBaby for changing the purpose of our lives.
We often think about what we must give as parents, but I want to take a moment to reflect on what becoming a father has given me. These are five ways being a father has blessed me. Fatherhood…
Made Me Work Harder to Reach My Goals
Becoming a father has definitely pushed me to work harder towards my own goals. Knowing that there are other people who depend on me not just financially but also spiritually, emotionally and in other ways is a constant driving force. This has also forced me to examine the type of legacy I plan to leave behind—not just for my children but for the children that come after them.
Made Me Slow Down to Enjoy Life
It’s amazing to watch your baby learn to smile, laugh, crawl and other precious skills from week to week. Babies grow so fast, so it’s important to embrace every moment along the journey. Becoming a father has made me slow down from the constant grind and really stop to enjoy life. After a busy day of working, a relaxing trip to the park, a messy mealtime or just spending time before baby goes to bed forced me to stop and take in the moment. These are the moments that memories are made of when we look back years from now.
Made Me Appreciate Life More
Before I became a father, life was just life, but now it’s so much more. I’m working to become healthier to make sure I’m here for all of the milestones in my children’s lives. I know sometimes we men can be stubborn when it comes to staying on top of our checkups, diets, exercise, etc. but having babies finally gets men to stop and think about their health.
Made Me Look for the Lessons
Having babies and becoming a father has caused me to look for the lessons in life—the lessons that I can share as our babies grow and become adults. I don’t want them to make the mistakes I made, and I want them to be better than me. I think that’s the goal of every parent, and it’s the same for me.
Made Me Feel Loved Like Never Before
Having babies and becoming a father has made me feel loved like never before. Being loved from a baby is different than anything else that you can experience. Seeing the way a baby’s eyes light up when you enter the room is special. Hearing your baby giggle or coo when you tickle them is a sound you won’t forget. A baby’s love is special and something you hold on to, especially when they become teenagers LOL.
