Basketball Wives has been criticized since its inception for its portrayal of black women. Fans have tuned in for four seasons to see the women fuss, fight, make up and do it all over again. There have been some catfights but it was typically relegated to glass throwing, hair pulling and the occasional slap. However, it seems like the cast wanted to take things up a notch.
Reality television is one of my guilty pleasures and like many I tuned in to the latest Basketball Wives episode. There was not a punch thrown but the behavior of one of the cast members was just as disgusting.
Tami was angry at Kesha for talking about her behind her back and confronted her during a vacation in Tahiti. Tami yelled and screamed at a clearly frightened Kesha which sent the latter running from the scene. While she was gone, Tami snatched her purse and refused to give it back to her until she got an apology. Eventually, she got her things back and left Tahiti.
To the say the scene is shocking is an understatement. It was like watching a pitbull attack a Chihuahua. I don’t particularly like Kesha but in that moment, I felt really bad for her. She was clearly frightened and none of the other women stuck up for her or tried to reason with Tami. I used to consider her to be one of my favorite cast members but after what I saw, I felt ashamed for her. Instead of being the no-nonsense Tami people came to love, she just became another screaming drama queen. She was no different from Evelyn who was running across tables a couple of episodes before.
The women of Basketball Wives don’t have a luxury that a lot of their white counterparts have. Teresa Giudice can flip a table in Real Housewives of New Jersey and most people would just laugh it off and call her crazy. A Tami Roman and Nene Leakes would be used as examples to validate stereotypes of black women as loud, confrontational and violent. It is not fair but that’s reality. These women have other sides to them but those sides don’t generate ratings. A black woman throwing a drink will generate ratings quicker than one running a board meeting.
These women are business women, entrepreneurs and mothers but viewers rarely get to see that side of them. Tami has been honest about being sexually abused and she could be an example for people that have had to deal with the same issues. She has also done philanthropy work. I would like to see more of that instead of snatching purses. These women need to be held accountable for their actions and it seems like that is finally happening. There have been calls for boycott and petitions and it seems like VH1 is listening.
“We at VH1 agree with and support Shaunie and the show producers’ “no excessive physical confrontations” policy on the series moving forward,” said VH1 in a press release. “We are all committed to balancing the candid, bold excitement that the viewers have come to love in the series with storylines and representations they can be proud of.”
The show’s executive producer Shaunie O’Neal also pledges to stop the violence. “I feel that all these ladies take responsibility for what their actions are,” said O’neal. “After seeing ourselves this season, it definitely was a lot more bad than good. I’ve really tried to preach the whole “˜Let’s get some balance’ and now I think my voice is resonating.”
Hopefully, Shaunie and VH1 will stick to their promises but it is up to us to hold them and anyone else peddling negative images accountable. They can’t make money if we aren’t buying.
BMWK family, what do you think of the portrayal of black women and violence on Basketball Wives and other reality shows? Does this show make wives look bad? Does this show make black women look bad?
kenny says
Why would they change their formula if people, like you, keep tuning in? The people I hear complain about the show are the same people tuning in every week.
Virtuous says
You’re right. I’ve never been a fan of the show. I watch and complain. I happen to be flipping thru the channels and came across it. I had heard of it but never made is as a show I can’t wait to see. I have only seen a couple of episodes and happen to see the last episode. I WAS APPALLED. I continued to watch it in disblief…And that was one of my post on fb…Why do we watch these women? I agree with you 100%. I really wish we all would boycott it, but unfortunately, there are some who doesn’t stand up for anything, nor come together for a common cause on behalf “OUR” challenges.
Ashleigh L.A. says
You have a point. But there isn’t anything wrong with a little constructive criticism.
Berniefromthegrouphome says
I dont watch any of that stuff. The last thing close to that I watched was Kimora Lee’s show. I dont even know if it still comes on. I stopped watchin Kimora becasue I noticed how I started idololizing her and wanting to be like her. She married a hiphop mogul and had a lucrative career as a model. Her money was her reality not mine. I saw how I was starting to buy her products and trying to fit into her clothes. It just wasnt for me. As a people we CANT have it both ways. If these shows are/were showing black women in a positive light. The ratings would be VERY LOW. Look at he OWN network last I heard the ratings were dropping. The entertainment industry plays on our psychology & put things on screen of what they think WE should be and to some degree what we believe we are or who we want to be like (because of insecurities). I cant spend $100’s of dollars on shoes, clothes & weaves (& I have 2 college degrees and working on one more) and their is more interesting things in me than being a house wife (I was one twice, it’s overrated). As long as folks watch it they gonna keep it on. So here’s to housewives of atlanta the people who watch it and the many years they will be on the air until replaced by the disgusting equivalent.
shatia says
Exactly if people like the writer of this blog would stop watching maybe they wouldn’t portray them as such. A petition has been started but what will happen if things don’t change? Nothing you all will still watch…smh
Charalotte says
I think the best way for fans to send a message is to stop watching this madness. Unfortunately, it is like a bad car accident and you cannot turn away because your mind cannot comprehend that you are really watching this foolishness occur. This season was a total disgrace to women period! There is no excuse for this ridiculous behavior. Shaunie talks a good game, but birds of a feather flock together and she keeps hanging out with those fools Tami and Evelyn, so she must enjoy the drama and fights. Considering she herself was almost injured by a thrown wine bottle, Shaunie should intervene more quickly than she has been. I think inevitably they will need to 1) find new cast members, 2) get some SERIOUS counseling and anger management for those 2, or 3) cancel the show so that no one gets hurt or imprisoned. They must not have believed that a law suit is possible of relevant for their high school-like behavior. But they are grown women and there are real consequences for fighting after turning 18 (which they did many, many years ago).
Virtuous says
I agree, and like options 2 and 3. I think they all need counseling, and also cancel the show. That will send the best message to them. And maybe then they’ll grow up.
Ashleigh L.A. says
Good points. A lawsuit has already been filed against Evelyn’s assistant for the fight with Jennifer and truthfully, I don’t blame her. Jennifer handled that situation the way it should have been handled.
Natalie says
I don’t think that the show makes wives look bad because most of these women are no longer married. It does make women look terrible. Tami used to be one of my faves on the show until the last two episodes. She made herself look like a bully and her behavior was extremely childish. The fact is that the show has turned into a fight fest with little instigators sitting around to see who’s going to swing first.
This is not classy behavior and it is quite embarrassing. I would use this show as an example of how not to act!
The Travelin Diva (Kirstin) says
I was entertained by the show before that episode and after seeing Tami bully Kesha, I was utterly disgusted. But… As a person whose career is also in television production…drama = ratings and ratings = excessive amounts of advertising revenue for VH1. Bottom line… I read the press release and what the producers said, but I honestly don’t believe a change will come. It’s a cash machine for them. So sad!
Ashleigh L.A. says
I’ll believe it when I see it. I believe they’re only changing it now because people are calling them out on it.
DIME PIECE says
I THINK THE SHOW SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF OF THE AIR IF THEY CANNOT POTRAY AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN IN A POSITIVE LIGHT . “VH1” SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR ALLOWING IT TO HAVE GONE ON THIS LONG!!!
ladylyz says
It really makes no difference if their African american asain whte etc.. Women shouldn’t act like untrained dogs regardless.
ChiChi says
Its very disheartening because you have teenagers watching this madness, they think its cool to bully and fight other young women and when the bully gets so bad that a person commits suicide it’s really not funny anymore. Shaunie having a daughter(s) should be ashamed of herself. I’m sure their very own children are probably behaving this way as well because we live what we learn. I wish they would grow up and act like WOMEN! #antibullying #antiignorance 🙁
Virtuous says
You make a valid statement. They look to these women as being cool. Roll models…and they act out what they see.
Ashleigh L.A. says
Evelyn and Tami both have daughters. Evelyn’s daughter is around 20 and Tami’s girls are both teens. I wonder how they feel when they see their mother’s acting like their peers.
Raymond Henson says
On that note … My young daughter directed my wife and I to Tami’s FB page and though there appears to be a few of them it was startling to say the least. I hope her eyes were opened to the effect she and her cast mates are having on young girls with their horrible behavior. While there were young girls upset with her actions there where way to many praising her for them, saying how she keeps it real and she’s a bad …… and their idol.
They actually say they’ll ride or die with her because of how she gets down on the show, letting ……… have it, checkin them ……. like a real black woman…really? The normal response when one complained about BBW was to say what about the shows with them white folks they act a fool too. My momma used to say ” if that fool jumped off a bridge would you jump too!” To try and excuse BBW’s horrible behavior by pointing out others do it to is no excuse. We got to do better, be better and set better examples for us damn what anyone else does….
Yeisha says
#1 Who is a wife on BBW?
#2 I’m totally disgusted by their behavior. I have been hearing about their actions but I just really hadn’t had time to view. Now, I’m so sorry I did. These women are getting paid for acting ignorant and messy or are they acting. I guess it’s true, you really will sell your soul for a few dollars.
JRStovall says
I can honestly say that I have never watched this show. I have heard about it of course and what I hear is disgusting. We need more positive things on tv. Unfortunately people like to watch drama sad but true, that is what makes the ratings high which equates to money. Some of our young ladies think this is the normal way to handle a dispute. So sad…
Virtuous says
I think we watch in disbelief. People think this is the image of a black woman. Every reality show depicts us this way. They aren’t married and sends a message that that’s why most black women aren’t married. Unfortunately, we can’t get mad like whites or Italians and rec’v the same respect but I’ve always been sooo ashamed on the women on the show and how all of them seem to allow Tammy to be a matriarch in hopes of not feeling her wrath. I’d like to she her publicly displined and put in her place. VH1 doesn’t care who lives they ruin in hopes of capitalizing on the ratings. This is the way life has taken a turn. People has began living their lives as if its a reality show. What I mean by that is morally, people are always trying to hurt others now….to make themselves feel superior….loosing the sense of compassion…Like on Basketballl Wives
Splendor says
I refuse to waste my brain cells watching this.

Luckily they are not wives…. not nare one of them ladies represent themselves as a classy articulate women…. Let alone a Black women, there the stereotypical black white other women!
Just sad to even go along with such a scripted portrayal of what you think we want to see!
Keisha D says
No nonsense, keeping it real, keeping it 100, rolling ur neck, don’t play is the same so u liked her because she was dumb and a bully. Why didn’t people like Kesha because she wasn’t loud and boistrous and stereotypical because the first couple of episodes I saw there was no other reason the foolish masses would choose not to like her. These women and any that choose to act like them are poor excuses for young ladies of any race and culture. They are the epitome of selling yourselves for a buck along with RHW of any city, and any other show that reduce human nature to bullyish behavior and intimidation. For the intelligence and formal education that Shaunie has she capitilized on the miseducation of the voyeuristic nature of the ignorant. She should be ahsamed and promoting this behavior, and Tami, and the rest anyone who condones this drama that has spilled over to real affliction to people should be too..this is not All My Children where we would think it’s make believe and fantasy they ran them out of business. We always state we hate stereotypes yet we are the best to promote them. I don’t watch the shows but your article made me click it so I’m glad people are realizing that this animalistic baffoonary should stop. Women would never act like this and now this is what we have our young ladies reduced to hustling their tails and fighting to be called a “wife” and get a dollar while reducing their dignity. I’m still wondering how you backed Tami’s angry tail anyway, she was not role model no real representation just a bully wayyy back to Real World. It’s a shame she hasn’t matured or resolved any issues in 20 years..Life is about growth and not reduction of your brain mass.
Ashleigh L.A. says
I wasn’t backing her. I mentioned her philanthropy work and candidness about her sexual abuse to illustrate the point that she has other things that could be focused on besides he said, she said crap.
reesey says
Keisha, your comment is on point with everything you said. All your points are valid and well put. These women are such bullys. Shaunie should be ashamed of herself being a part of such bafoonery. VH1 does not give a damn about how these black women look. They just want to get good ratings. The ppl running the network are just looking and saying to themselves…”look at them, the white man isnt making you behave like animals.”
Rose says
I think they should remove the show…Shaunie as the co-creater should no better than to allow all this violence to go own…The worse part about it is, some of the ladies have children…What example are they teaching their kids…Sure we only see one hour of the show…It stills show more of the negative side of them then the positive…These girls can not blame society for judging them. The blame should be on themselves..To conclude, I stand by my opinion about the show needing to be removed..
Rose says
Sorry about the typo…know, on, still..
Kyra says
h that episode with Keisha and Tami was just plain out wrong. Tami please get it together. Dont let your past environment and circumstances get in the way of your life goals. Everyone has problems and gets talked about. You dont need to snatch a purse thats a bully move. not cute
Ashleigh L.A. says
I couldn’t have said it better.
ReLee says
I find the show embarrassing and refuse to watch but I don’t watch any of the reality “wives” shows.
Trina says
I myself like the show and as a faithful fan of the show yes Tami was wrong but she is trying to deal with those anger issues that she has. I know what it is like to go from 0 to 1000 in a matter of seconds and not think about the consequences until after the damaged is done. After it was over she was remorseful and said she could’ve handle the situation better them the way she did she is getting counseling people and maybe she will learn to deal with her anger way better then she did last night
Ashleigh L.A. says
Still, I think it could have been prevented. If I know I’m extremely angry at someone, I try not to be around them or put myself in situation to interact with them. Also, Tami knows how she gets when she drinks. She should have stayed FAR from those shots.
Dionnea Seals says
NOT good enough. We all should have been enraged a long time ago. Show should not have last four seasons. Abusive language is enough for me to tune out. When are WE going to get it?? We (African American Community) tolerate too much in our culture. But as soon as someone (other race) complain or call us other than a child of God 🙂 ……we want to get offended! Boycotting because they’re getting “more physcial” is pretty ridiculous. But go for it. Let’s be consistent and not wait until it’s “too much”. http://www.a-single-moment.com
Shanna says
At some point, sistas need to be more mindful of how they allow themselves to be portrayed and others need to stop watching this foolishness and mayhem. There is NOTHING entertaining about watching another person’s dysfunction. Shows like BBW and RHOA have given folks license to demean and degrade sistas. Have any of you noticed the recent increase in number and frequency of articles about all things wrong with Black women (e.g., Why Black women are fat? angry? unmarriable? etc.) Trust, someone is enriching themselves at our expense and it’s time for us to stop accepting and supporting these types freak shows blindly and willingly. We have to do better people…really we do!
Ashleigh L.A. says
Those articles were being written way before those shows aired.
Rob says
That’s how you destroy the black woman. Some watch and buy into the stereotypes. Who in their right mind would marry a Tammy or Evelyn as they portray themselves on Tv. I believe they like the lifestyle, don’t want to be kicked off the show and its scripted. Believe me its plenty more people ready to act a fool.
Letrell manchand says
Shaunis is pimping all them broads. Bet she won’t act to crazy because big shaq, her ex husband ain’t having it. What’s even sadder is that these “women” a term is use loosely have “men” another I use loosely consign these antics. Chad…ummm this is your future wife? Royce, another man ( athlete) you “in love” with? Tammy been dramatic since the Real World. Remember when she got the black guy kicked off because she felt violated when they were all playing. Susie..,,,,,ummmm what does she do???? I am go on and on. But I watch why because it’s entertaining. Sad but entertaining. I look and laugh and say look at these chicken heads fighting in red bottoms and Gucci. Damn chicken heads with no class always come up.

I don’t know y everyone is just focussing on 1 reality show. They fight and act a fool on all of the shows like the mob wives, love and hip hop, bad girls club, etc. No I don’t view all black women as loud but u have them in all races. They b fighting on Jerry Springer and I didn’t see nobody trying to boycott that. My thing is this if u gone say something about one show say something about all of them.
Ashleigh L.A. says
Sadly, white women have the luxury to act an ass and it not be a considered a reflection of their race.
linnie says
I hear you Ashleigh but should we honestly alter/curb our behaviors for fear of what some bigot is going to think of us? So Tami is is a poor reflection of our race but Michelle Obama, Oprah, Condoleeza Rice (despite her political views) are not wonderful reflections on our race? I understand we live in the “real world” and people will judge you unfairly, however, I don’t think that that’s a valid reason to change the way you are. You made an excellent point earlier when you mentioned that those articles on why Black women are (fat, ,loud, ugly, etc.) were written BEFORE any of these reality shows aired. In other words, bigots will be bigots regardless. If there were no such thing as BBW they would still have that idea in their heads not because of any show but because those views make them feel better. Seeing Claire Huxtable and the entire male/female college cast on A Different World every week in the 80’s/90’s didn’t make others suddenly believe that Black people were classy and genius. If anyone is using these shows as “evidence” of how Black/Latina women are then they have bigger issues of their own to address.
That being said I did think this season was tasteless and disgusting. I’m not a fan of censorship though, so for those who enjoy it, to each their own.
Rob says
The reality shows do not have substance. Its a formula, drama =ratings. Soon as a commercial come on and show pieces of the fight, everybody program their Tv to the channel. Its not entertaining to me, its sad. Little girls come to school acting out just like the little girls on those shows.
Why are we quick to boycott our own or something insignificant these days?

Sad, Sad, Sad, I am a 9th grade teacher and since we are coming to the end of the year, I have talked with my students about what they want to do in the future and in life? I had one female student raise her hand, stand up and proclaim that when he grows up, she wants to be a basketball wife. The class almost created a riot as they laughed, hissed, talked about and threatened her. Are we too late to save our young girls against this madness??? A BBW is not an aspiration, now is it what any sane individual should be…. this show is glorified ignorance, immaturity and foolishness
Mrs. J. Jones says
See, this the message our young daughters are picking up! It is sad…. 🙁
Sandra says
This show takes us Black women back 10 years. What kind of examples are these women for our young ladies? That we are just Angry Black Women??? This show is ridiculous and a waste of time. I watched it once and have never tuned in again. I personally dont find jealous, vindictive, fighting, bullying and ghetto women entertaining. Its embarassing and shameful, and to say the least, Foolishness! I’m not a friend of drama (but to each his/her own)….
Mrs. J. Jones says
That show should have been CANCELLED after the 1st season!! I don’t watch the show. I can sit here and say I’ve only watched 1/2 a show since it aired. The foolishness on that show I can’t watch! I refuse to allow myself to be counted as a “viewer” for the show. I read Shaunie’s complaint before this season on how she was going to have the women portrayed in a different light and shortly after I hear about someone walking across tables and physical abuse being done!?? Uhh… Shaunie, I thought there was going to be end to all of that??? She certainly has left a bad taste in my mouth over this show!! She is ALL talk! Even her comments above sound like a lie! Her efforts in NOT portraying African American Women in the light her cast seems to is just poorly done.
To those who tune in……STOP! STOP flipping through channels and leaving it on there because you “just ran across it”. Surely an infomerical is better than watching this mess because when you watch you’re condoning it and it’s adding to their ratings. ANDDDDD……….if this is YOUR WEEKLY SHOW you tune in to……….SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!! What kind of statement are you giving about African American Women and how you and your daughters, nieces, cousins, etc portrayed??? What message are you sending to our young queens on what IS acceptable behavior as women?? STOP watching and ENCOURGE others to STOP insteading of discussing details after or at work the next day. And now here the husbands are watching with their wives?!??? REALLY!???
I am not a fan and the girls at work hear from me all the time on them condoning and how wrong they are for watching! My stance here is NO DIFFERENT!!

I refuse to watch this program. I think the women on this show do not have an accurate representation on the black woman. Therefore, to watch it means I agree with their negative, disrespectful and violent tendencies. They are sending the wrong message to our already tainted image. For the record, not all us behave in the manner to which these women portray. This is a degradation to our society and they should all be locked up in jail for being stupid. Not all black women are evil and hostile. I vote to have that program removed off the air. I am embarrassed for them as well as the women they claim to represent. These women are missing so many elements and not sure how they got a title of being someone’s wife. They are a bunch of low class, broke down, and non-educated women. They are the worst group of losers that I’ve ever seen in my life. I have a new suggestion for the title should this show remain on air, “The Stupid Ex-Basketball Wives”. As a wife they are so not deserving of this blessed title. It is no wonder they are divorced!!! Please take that mess off. In the end, Shaunie, as the Executive Producer, will have an accounting for her actions. Why has she allowed this show to go unrepresented? She just sits back and watches even promoting their negative behaviors all the while she never says a word. This type of program can ruin a persons career. I forgot- they don’t have one… I’m done!!!!
Ashley says
I think it should be taking off air. I use to be a fan of the show but then I saw how much violence and fakeness was going on I just couldn’t take it anymore. I dnt really care about how the media thinks of black women because no matter how much we try we will always be in the back of the bus in the eye of the media. Im more so worried about the ypung women that tune in.

I catch the show if I remember to, and definitely said Shaunie needs to get that Tami some help asap cause she is going to ruin her franchise – that was nuts! I would’ve pressed charges, sent her to a foreign jail for a few nites just to show her I meant business, and give her something to really be mad about. Tami even condemned herself in the episode when Jen sent legal notices to all, she said something like ” I don’t know what my mind is going to be from one minute to the next so that puts me in a awkward space…” It means she has no self control and she is nuts, and that puts you in the go straight to jail category. She don’t need to be there.
Monte says
This show reinforces my perception that ‘alcohol’ is ‘the new man’ and that ‘drinking’ has replaced ‘relationships’… just like, shoes, purses, shopping (and every other thing marketed to women) and ‘dating’ seems to be the goal over ‘marriage.’
Its like, women who’ve had affairs [with guys who make a thousand times more than the average man with a job] need not show the responsibilities and joys of motherhood, personal hobbies or much community involvement.
Mind you, I’ve only watch a show or two, and probably only did that because I’ve liked to check out women who seem to take care of their physical appearances. That show let me now how ABSOLUTELY important it is to get to know what is in a woman’s heart.

P.S. I acknowledge the fact that I’ve got my own ‘ish to work on, too. But I have not put a whole bunch of my habits into the mainstream, that I don’t want millions of young men to follow [like many (of us) men do], while “popping my collar” ’bout how much of an entrepreneur I am. And while I will have to (continue to) hold myself accountable for the things that I say and do, I respect the fact that all issues that we communicate and work towards getting some good out of – for our collective betterment – is still a worthwhile endeavor.
Antwoine says
This show is odd….first of all, not all of these women ever basketball wives at all……ex-girlfriends and ex-fiances with a few divorces….Shawnie O’Neal brings on every jilted black female and uses her……but alot of basketball players also married, got with….white women, so where are they? The show is not titled “Basketball Black Wives”…. I guess that is another story, so let’s get back on track……….. as a black man, every time I come across an episode there is nothing but DRAMA!!!! One black chick trying to dominate someone in the group that they perceive is weak, and the other black chicks sit around and act DUMB!!!! They sit back and watch without calming the situation or defending anyone to make the show better. NO WONDER THEY ARE ALL SINGLE!!!!!!! But now they are bringing men into the fray…. Ocho Cinco with this chick who wants her cake and eat it too???? and some other poor schmuck that just does not understand these chicks are all about DRAMA!!!!!!!!! This show should be about how these women have moved on in a positive way after failed relationships, not a feast of disgruntled bitches treating each other like crap. You don’t see their ex-counterparts with a show called “Basketball Ex-Husbands” and them acting a fool about what they went through!!!!!! Women of all colors watch this and act accordingly!!

You know I’ve grown up watching my mom and her friends, her friends and there friends, me and my friends, etc. And never once once witnessed the catyness portrayed on basketball wives or some of the other shows. That stuff is not real.

Black women who watch the show are a disgrace to black women. Producers would not have allowed Basketball Wives to remain on air if ratings were low. Pick up a book, something other the 50 Shades of Grey, or watch PBS.

I think all the controversy that is happening around BBW is a wonderful example of showing consumers, viewers, voters, the 99% of us of how powerful we really are. That we can really direct and control what we watch on television and for those of us who are writers, healers, artists, etc who want to present positive, loving images and stories about ourselves can now have the network’s ears and eyes and perhaps we can move into a new era of Television and Image Making that tells three-dimensional positive story-telling. I see this as something bigger than BBW but as an example that this is the time where the people get to vote. My only hope is that the backlash against this show continues and Shed Media and the cast of BBW feel the heat. Why? I have watched a few episodes of BBW. I personally couldn’t stand to stomach it anymore and I’ve never had that reaction from watching television. Would I continue to watch it after Shed Media creates the balance in the show. Probably not. Why? Because I just don’t trust people who even would think to allow that type of foolery and violence on television because I’m not interested in change because of your dollars being affected. I’m interested in long-term change because the actions and the non-actions of the women of BBW is wrong and its a defamation of their character.

I agree with your comments. This show is garbage. Black women are better than this in today’s world. Maybe if they were really married they would not act this way. Disgrace to black women and young girls. We have better role models than these scums and all the producers. I pray this show gets kicked off the air. Enough is enough. Not a good way to just make money. Go find a real job. Shaunie you are behind this 100%. Shameful.

I love, love, love, NENE leakes, sorry how dare u compare NENE and Tami. They are nothing alike. NENE= style, fashion, strong, opinionated, family oriented, loving, tall, funny. Tami= Violent, two-faced, anger, abrasive. I love basketball wives, black women everything u do is NOT always RIGHT!!!! This show is GREAT. Just the violence and stuff has to halt. I love the confrontations but the violent is TYPICAL. 2 many Americans can’t fight with there minds and believe that fighting with fists is the ticket. OH YEA, a ticket to assault, a ticket to jail, a ticket to criminal activity. I hate gangs, thugs, hustlers. NOT MODERN. UNDERSTAND this black women, having babies by thugs, drug dealers, etc. What results do you think will occur? U answer the question.

tami needs major psycho therapy for her verbally abusive behavior and she needs to get arrested for posing as a threat to others. shaunie needs to be held accountable for not acting (in the least) as a responsible leader and telling tami to not act out so abusively. those 2 plus evelyn are extremely disgraceful in their demeanor and behaviour. if you are uncouth with out wealth you are still uncouth with wealth.

You are right but I for one will no longer watch. I am appalled and the insincere apologies all around, makes me shake my head. The show was filmed months ago and you will see t week that none if them are sorry they are tip toeing around because of the public outcry. I heard Tami is being paid to speak toyoung girls at public schools and my question is about what?????; if anyone has any information about thus key ne know. I don’t want her representing me as a black woman. We as black women have so many negative sterotypes to deal with, we don’t need Tami’s antics adding to the list.

I’m taken aback by how upset people got with Tami over her behavior in this episode. This entire season, Tami has been a horrible version of herself when it comes to bullying, in my opinion. This particular episode was just more of the same. And, if Kesha would stop saying she is going to do things she is clearly incapable of doing, maybe she wouldn’t find herself in messes like that one. Even after all that drama happened, Kesha was still talking about Tami and running amok with her words. I don’t feel sorry for her, at all, especially considering a few weeks ago, she had been rallying all the women against Kenya for the exact, same thing. What goes around generally comes around. Maybe she’ll learn from the experience.
That said, I still watch this show because it is interesting to watch people. Do I always like the way the woman are behaving? No. But, I live in the real world, in a city where you can see similar behavior while walking down the street. I am not the sort to judge an entire group of people based on the behaviors of a select few, so I would not say this show makes black women look bad. I am a black woman. This show is not a reflection of me, at all. I don’t think it even says anything significant about me that I watch it every week. As a grown woman, I am allowed to watch whatever I like. I certainly don’t watch it with my child in the room, though! We all have our guilty pleasures. (Although, I don’t particularly feel guilty about watching.)
Does it make wives look bad? I think that’s a pretty silly question. I would think people would judge wives based upon how they treat their husbands and maybe how clean their houses are before judging them upon some strangers on a tv show. Besides…none of those women are wives!

Keisha can say whatever she wants but Tami by BJ means has a right to threaten, her. Tami was waiting for an opportunity to jump Im the defenseless girl. Sms she was correct she couldn’t possibly help Tami look any worse than she did. If the weren’t talking about Keiska behind HER back she wouldn’t know what she said.Tami is too old for this nonsense, yes, she has been the Rat she is from the beginning but this was too much. And evekyn and shaunue sitting there. Tami us a classless girl beautiful but classless nonetheless, and, being Im the detriment with these other girls brings all of her insecurities to the for front and I’m sure that is a catalyst for her actions.

Shaunie should be ashamed!! These women try to portray themselves as classy with they’re fancy clothes and trips but they are ghetto!! They are poor examplse of real black or ethnic women in general!! Yes VH1 doesn’t seem to care because it makes them money. Its all a shame…these women are grown and all they do is yell and harass each other and fuss about nothing. Grow up and get a real life!!

I don’t understand how you “not liking” Kesha has anything to do with your criticism of VH1 “peddling negative images”. What is this column really about? And what place does your own personal opinion of the victim in this case have in the examination of the disgraceful behavior of black women and wives? To me, you’re practicing the same petty behavior that appalls you. Why don’t you like her? In the few minutes of screen time that you see Kesha per week, you’ve already decided that her character was worthy of a personal attack? How is that any less violent/ ridiculous that what Tami did? If you don’t like her, than shouldn’t you be cheering for Tami when she punks Kesha, or even worse, shouldn’t you have wanted Kesha to be eaten by baby sharks or killed by stingrays? Those other girls on the show didn’t care too much about the confrontation either. They didn’t stop it, they didn’t openly condemn Tami’s actions, they didn’t ostracize her and none of them stood up for Kesha, even if they don’t particularly “like her” or think that she’s got what it takes to be a part of the “big girl” inner circle. Thanks for sharing with us that you don’t like Kesha, Ashleigh, and I’m sure that she’s excited to know that that all these people that don’t like her, got her back, that is, after they’re done dehumanizing her.

Exactly and on the flip side you can like Tammy and condemn her action. And one of those alledged to be grown enemy should have stepped in.

Tammy need to get a refund from her anger management therapist. She put black women to shame the way she acts. Grow up Tammy. So what if someone talks about you. That mean they have no one else or nothing else important to talk about in their life so be glad you are all they can think about.
