I love me some Michelle! And Pete you are SO right! At first I was grabbing every cover that had either of them on it but now at this rate, it’s becoming another bill haha…I quit! (after this one lol)

The first institution established by our Heavenly Father was marriage between a man and a woman. It is the foundation of a society. Civilation is built upon it. A nation’s health is determined by the health of its marriages.
I love seeing Michelle and Obama interact with one another. You can see the love and respect eyes they have for one another in their eyes.

That was funny. lol

@ political pete – unfortunately we’ve got a LONG way to go before Black Love even comes close to the amount of Negro Nonsense that is out there. i may not buy every issue, but it’s nice feel that when a magazine article is talking about marriage i don’t automatically have to think ‘they didn’t write this with ME in mind’
BLACK LOVE MAKES ME SMILE!
TheDad says
You have to admit that in the last few months the amount of positive images in the print media of black culture has gone up 10 fold. Now we have to transition from them all being of Barack and Michelle and get more regular folk on the covers.

@Dad – EXACTLY. I didn’t come out and say this because I didn’t want to come across as negative but there are plenty of other wholesome love stories that people can cling to and be inspired by if they opent their eyes. It was a blessing to witness and be apart of a 50 year marriage of a couple from my church. Though the wife is now deceased (she passed about two months ago), I was very close to her and she taught me alot of lessons about being a woman and a wife through her actions AND life lesson lectures (lol). My fear is that the pedestal the media has placed the Obamas on gives them no room to be human…so after this copy I STILL quit! haha

I’m an advocate for Black Love!!
Nicole says
I’m sorry, but I’m sick of seeing them on the cover of all the black magazines. I don’t think too many people of other races subscribe to Ebony and Jet.
Harriet says
@ kim,
i think it’s easier to dwell on the negative things we see. for example, theDad participated in a documentary about what black men think, and what the statistics actually show. young black men think there are more of them in prison than there are in college, because that is the media’s perception. in actuality, the stats show just the opposite.
i think the same is true of romantic relationships amongst black men and women. there is less drama out there than we would like to believe because many times we are surrounded by the negative.
my husband and i have made the choice to surround ourselves with relationships that are loving, respectful, and REAL. our mentors are transparent with us about the issues they deal with, but at the same time, they work harder at pushing out the negativity than they do at retaining all the foolishness that is blatantly in front of them.
once we made the decision to look for more positive than negative, all of a sudden, that’s what became our existence.

The marketing of “Black Love” (LOL). Well, I guess we’d better enjoy it while it lasts. Personally, I think the way Barack looks at Michelle is truly a thing of beauty. Now if only we could figure out a way to package that and sell it from every street corner . . .

What I don’t understand, Why the media act like they didn’t know Black Love, I mean real Black Love between husbands and wives, didn’t exist until Barack and Michelle came to light.
Daisy says
@Ms Miko I dont care who puts it out there as long as it is put out and pushed to the forefront. I knew black love existed before Barack and Michelle. I dont see anything wrong with making black love/marriage cool for the world to see. I had my parents who have been married for over 25yrs and counting but everybody doesnt have that. When you have so many black women (myself included) unmarried we need to see that there is hope and black love is still alive and well!
Ms Miko says
I’m not saying we should hide it by no means, and I believe that Barack and Michelle are a beautiful couple, as well as many other beautiful black couples, when I say I am an advocate for Black Love, trust me on that. What bothers me is because the Media, act like Black Love didn’t exist until they came on the Scene.

This is a blessing. I hope now that this lifts the spirit of the African American community. Obama has stepped the bar up. Now we have to step our game up. Especially with love for our black women.

I only subscribe to Ebony and Jet for school fund raisers. And they are not even my own kids schools, my kids are grown. lol. I do love this couple but get upset that they are the “poster” couple for black America. I know many black couples still married after 50+ years. Do some ppl really believe that this in the only marrierd powerful black couple in our country?
Lorri says
What exactly is “Black Love”? Are you insinuating there’s a difference between love depending upon your color, and/or nationality?
ERICKA says
I THINK THAT IT IS A POSITIVE THING THAT MICHELLE AND BARACK IS ON THERE…AND I FEEL LIKE THEY ARE A GOOD CANDIDATE TO REPRESENT BLACK LOVE RIGHT NOW…FOR THEY ARE VERY POWERFUL AND HAVE HELPED ACCOMPLISHED SUCH A POWERFUL DREAM THAT WE AS BLACK PEOPLE STARTED TO LOSE FAITH IN…YES THERE ARE ALOT OF BLACK COUPLES OUT THERE THAT HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR 25 YEARS AND PLUS YEARS…BUT LOOKING AT AN ACCOMPLISHED COUPLE SUCH AS THEMSELVES MAKES IT MORE POWERFUL…I AM VERY VERY VERY PROUD TO SEE THEM ON T.V AND ON COVERS EVERY WHERE..BEING A YOUNG LADY (24) THE MEN THAT WERE LEADERS IN MY ERA WERE RAPPERS AND ATHLETES…WHICH REALLY LEFT NO HOPE FOR ME IN BELIEVING THAT I WOULD FIND A DECENT MAN BECAUSE MAJORITY OF MY PEERS FROM THE OPPOSITE SEX IDOLIZE THE WAY THE MEN LIVED DOWN TO THE DEGRADING OF WOMEN …IM GLAD NOW WE DO HAVE OBAMA AND MICHELLE FRONT AND CENTER SO THE WHOLE WORLD CAN SEE THAT WE DO HAVE POSTIVE ROLE MODELS AND POSITIVE FAMILIES…AND WHAT A WAY TO SHOW IT WITH OUR FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT AND FIRST BLACK LADY….TO SEE SUCH REAL AND GENUINE LOVE LIKE THAT MAKES YOU PROUD…AND ALSO GIVES YOU FAITH IN LOVE, FAMILY, MARRIAGE AND YOUR COMMUNITY….

It is what it is “Black Love”. Tv loves to protray black ppl as rude, loud, a menance to society. If someone lives in a community with no black ppl they think what they see on tv represents “all black people”. Blacks are sometimes judged as a “whole unit/race” and not as individuals. My in-laws have been married for over 50 yrs. They are pilars in the community and elders in their church. You don’t see their “Black Love” being shared on tv, they are not stars with the stalkerattzie chasing after them. To see “Black Love” (two black ppl married people taking care of things responsibly) and setting the bar high for all blacks to do better is a sense of self acceptance and validation for us black ppl. We blacks now get more of a sense of pride because Our President and First Lady are black.
“Black Love has always been out in any community, we were just ignored or under represented unless we stayed within our own social venues. Non blacks always wonder why blacks have their own tv channels or their own black colleges, Miss Black America Pagents, the answer is ” we were not being represented/included”. Sometimes the old saying “If you can’t beat em join em”, does not hold true. If they don’t include you, you “build it and they will come”. Now in all fairness I do have to add that I can’t and don’t get mad at anyone for dating outside of their race. My mother was white and my dad is black, but if you ask me what race I am ,I will say black every time. Too look at me, you know I am white, to look at my hair I could be mixed or Jewish.*(I do love my flat iron though) If I have to check a box to identify what race I am(being ppl are stupid and the human race has not been an option yet) I check the box that says “black”. To sum up my comment. Black Love has always been alive and vibrate, it’s just now that others are taking notice.
