We had the exclusive opportunity to interview one of our favorite artists, KEM before he heads to Miami for a fabulous performance at the Miami Gardens Jazz in the Gardens weekend music festival.
Headlining this years’ festival along with Patti LaBelle and Jill Scott is the artist known as KEM and for mega hits “Love Calls” and “Why Would You Stay.” Having just finished his tour in South Africa, KEM shares that he “loves performing in Europe and South Africa.” In his first appearance at the “Jazz in the Gardens” festival, expect to hear your favorites from all 3 albums during his performance. “After my performance, I am excited about checking out Ledisi and Ramsey Lewis’ performances,” KEM says.
We asked the Grammy nominated artist what’s next after the festival. “I’m heading back into the studio to work on my 4th album which my fans are anxiously waiting for,” KEM said. Coming up in August, is the premiere of “Sparkle,” the film in which he makes his acting debut as the master of ceremonies, “Buddy.” “Working on the film was interesting because I was not calling the shots, like I do in the studio,” laughs KEM. In addition to making more great music we hope the big screen becomes his second home.
There’s still time to book a weekend getaway and purchase your festival tickets to see KEM perform live. You don’t want to miss his fabulous performance. Please visit www.jazzinthegardens.com for ticket information. Remember the celebration of music kicks off Saturday March 17th. Afterwards head down to South Beach for day or two, you might just bump into KEM. “The festival is not in Miami proper as I was promptly reminded,” laughs KEM, but “I will try to enjoy a few days at the beach afterwards.”
Maybe we could convince him to do a concert on the beach?
Enjoy!
