Do you remember the story of the three little pigs and the wolf? The first two pigs built their houses with straw and sticks quickly then partied because they were lazy. The third pig worked hard to build his house with bricks.

The wolf watched as the first two pigs sang and danced and commented that they were easy prey so he went to the first house of straw and blew it down. That pig ran to the second house and the wolf was able to blow the stick house down, also.

Both pigs ran to the third house made of brick but the wolf wasn’t able to blow that one down. Once he was tired of blowing, he tried to sneak in through the chimney but the third pig had a pot of water boiling, so the wolf died when he fell in the pot.

Straw – Looks and Money

Some marriages are built on looks and money. These reasons may keep a marriage for only so long. What will happen when the enemy attacks your marriage? He is watching to see what he can tempt you with and see what your reaction will be to any given circumstance.

An accident may disfigure the good looks. Another good looking man or woman may catch your eye or that of your partner’s. A bad decision can cost you financially. If you married for looks and money, will your marriage withstand storm?

Sticks – Family Pressure

Some marriages are built on the pressures of family. Sometimes folk are tired of being asked when they are going to settle down and get married so they propose or accept the proposal of someone convenient.

What will happen when the enemy attacks? You may realize that you may not be in love with your partner at all. An issue may pop up and your partner may not be supportive. If you married under pressure, will your marriage withstand a storm?

Bricks – Love and Trust

Some marriages are built on love and trust.  Some couples wait until they find the person they love and trust. So what happens when the enemy attacks? They will be able to count on their love and trust for one another in order to fight for their relationship.

When the enemy tries to sneak in other ways, the couple would have anticipated it and have planned accordingly. If you married based on love and trust, will your marriage withstand a storm?

So, watch out for the enemy!

Regardless of what your marriage is built upon, the enemy will attack. The word says in 1 Peter 5:8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

He wants to devour your marriage because it is a covenant between you, your partner, and God regardless of how it was built. The stronger your foundation, the better chance you have of your relationship lasting.

If your marriage was built like the houses of the first two pigs in the story, you can always rebuild it with the bricks of love and trust. All it takes is two willing individuals.
