I already know the answer to who should pay for what when it comes to YOUR wedding…..You! Although most parents do want to help out, I don’t think it is something that parents feel obligated to do anymore. Martha Stewart’s Weddings just shared tips on who traditionally pays for certain things in a wedding.
According to Martha Stewart, the bride’s parents/family typically pays for the Engagement Party, Engagement announcements, and Wedding reception. She says:
Traditionally, the bride and her family are responsible for all planning expenses, the bride’s attire, all floral arrangements, transportation on the wedding day, photo and video fees, travel and lodgings for the officiant if he comes from out of town, lodging for the bridesmaids (if you have offered to help with this expense), and all the expenses of the reception.
And the groom’s family pays for corsages and boutonnieres, the rehearsal dinner, and sometimes the alcohol for the reception. Wow…the groom’s parents are getting off easy!!
For our wedding, my husband and I took care of the majority of the expenses. However our parents helped us with several things…like rehearsal dinner, dresses for flower girls…and other things.
BMWK Family – how did things work for your wedding? Who paid for what? And did you expect your family to pay for certain things?

I think it depends on the age. In my twenties, my parents definitely would have covered part of the costs. They chipped in for my sister’s nuptials, but my brother-in-law picked up a big part of the tab. In my thirties, I wouldn’t ask them to spend their retirement check and savings on my wedding day. Maybe I can be like Star Jones and get a sponsor! lol

During the planning of our wedding, I of course took over pretty much! Because I knew that we weren’t planning a wedding with lots of money, I found people that I knew that knew how to do things! My mom did the bouquets, boutonnieres, and other decor. Our food for the rehearsal dinner was donated by my mom’s friends and my church members catered for FREE! Look at God! My cousin and her husband decorated the wedding and reception! I had a former instructor from the Communications Department where I attended college at Mississippi Valley State University to be the videographer and the photographer was my cousin in law. I researched a lady on facebook in the area to do our cakes. Our venue was my home church and the B.B.King Museum where my mother-in-law works. My prices came out pretty good. My bridesmaids dresses were $70-$110 and the flower girls dresses were only $20. Whenever one person had the money for something, we just took care of it. Our band blessed us as well by telling us to just give them whatever we could afford:) I’m still blessed from my wedding!!!! Much love to you all!!! Sometimes tradition can be excused and do whatever works for the both of your families:)

I thought the bride’s parents pay for most of the wedding because the groom’s parents pay some expense and the groom buys the engagement/wedding ring (which can be costly). My husband and I dressed up, took pics and got married at the JoP by a Pastor. Our plan is to do a more formal ceremony on the beach next summer.

We were professionals in our 30s when we got married, and our parents still picked up the majority of the tab for the wedding. My mom had been waiting a long time to do so, so she was happy to go all out!
I’ll do the same with my own kids, God willing.

when my husband and i got married, we had a small wedding with 20 persons. My best friend works in the events department of a hotel so she was able to get me a huge discount and my cousin owns a bridal shop, so i got my dress and other wedding materials at cost.we had our wedding ceremony and rehearsal at the hotel so food and drinks was included in the price paid. my husband paid for the honeymoon and i paid for the wedding.it was a perfect deal because although the wedding total was more than the honeymoon, with the discounts and contributions the two prices almost matched, shy of a few hundred dollars.

This idea can be ideal your sand theme party invite.
A great floral centerpiece idea is to incorporate
your flowers with fresh fruit such as lemons and limes for a fun twist on your modern arrangement.
