Expectant mothers are always bombarded with warnings of what to do and what not to do. Prenatal guidance say things like don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t sleep on your back, don’t sleep on your stomach, don’t lift heavy weights, don’t take certain medicines, etc.
Well according to a new study, you might want to add a new one to the list. Consider you caffeine intake. And men too.
The National Institutes of Health study suggests men and women who drink three or more cups of caffeinated beverages (including coffee, certain sodas and energy drinks) daily are at greater risk for a miscarriage. The study found the risks were just as high in male partners as in the females partners. For couples who drink these beverages prior to conception, the risk for miscarriage is more than 70 percent higher.
The study also found a female’s multivitamin use prior to conception and during pregnancy significantly lowered a woman’s risk of miscarrying—by as much as 79 percent. So couples planning to conceive should limit their caffeinated beverages and the women should take a multivitamin.
BMWK, what things did you cut out of your diet before pregnancy?

I love teas! Where I’m from we have a lot of Bush teas such as mint, rosemary, fever grass that we would go outside and pick and brew without even knowing how nutritious these herbs are for us. Sometimes it’s good to go back to our older generation ways of living.
