Hello there!
Did anyone ask Laura Bush how she may help break down stereotypes about white women???
In many ways, one factor in the acceleration of racial stereotypes is the people who are fulfilling the stereotype.
What are the negative stereotypes about black women?
– That they are aggressive
– That they exhibit low moral standards by having illegitimate children
– That they are angry
– That they resent white women
– That they resent black men choosing white women
– That they constantly fetishize themselves
– That they are disrespectful towards men in general
– That they are competitive with each other for the tiny segment of eligible heterosexual men
– That they choose to dress like video hoes
– That they have negative expectations of black men
Are there other negative stereotypes of black women?
The stereotypes about black women WILL NEVER be broken down by one person ….even one high profile person. Condi has been in a powerful position and the negative stereotypes of black women persist.

I actually think she will have the chance to challenge stereotypes because she’s in a roll that’s highly visible and that a black woman has never been in before. I think the achievements of Condi Rice were discounted by most in the black community because of her association with Bush. If she had held the same position in the Clinton administration for example I think she would have an entirely different image.

Our next First Lady is not even in The White House yet but yes she has changed things. If she chooses to be a “stay at home” First Lady I am ok with that. What does she have to prove. She had degress from Harvard and Yale. If Mrs. Obama wants to finish raising her kids and stay home doing it, that’s fine with me. It has been along time since we had little “First Kids” in The White House.

I am so proud of how Michelle Obama has handled herself during the election process. I have seen quite a few interviews with Mrs. Obama lately, and she is engaging, warm, and articulate. Yes she is and will contiue to break down the sterotypes that most of America has of Black Women. I’ll even say that Mrs. Obama will dispel the sterotypes that Black Men have of Black Women.

@ Patricia, I love the last line in your above comment. I do not want to sterotype all black men. But would love for them to see us differently. All black woman are just that “not all alike”.

I so Proud of Michelle Obama, She poised, articulate and with a sense
of taste that speaks volume of what a woman is. More importantly she is an educated married mother. Many of great nations began with a strong Woman. I’m loving it!!!
