I ran into this hilarious post by NaijaHusband over at NaijaHusband.com about what its like to be married to a woman who embraces her natural hair. I’m telling you that I could not stop laughing through the entire thing. In the post he lists 8 things that husbands should adapt to once their wives return to their natural. Here are just a couple things that he says that men should get used to:
1) Watching her Bathroom Turn into a Mad Scientist’s Laboratory
3) Saturday Nights Are Not Date Nights
This one is my favorite!
8) Get Used to the Secret Group Meetings
Me: “What you up to today?”
NaijaWife: “I have a meeting.”
Me: “On Saturday?”
NaijaWife: “Yes…with some girls.”
Me: “What kind of meeting?”
NaijaWife: “Em. Hair meeting…”
Me: “You mean the hair salon?”
NaijaWife: “No…natural hair women’s meeting.”
Me: “I see…when will they hold one for the husbands of women with natural hair?”
This post was meant to be in jest, but I get it and it really did tickle my funny bone because I bet my husband would probably agree with NaijaHusband’s commentary. I know that it must be hard for men to “transition” as we take them with us on our natural hair journeys. I also LOVE getting this husbands’ point of view of what women really must be doing in the bathroom when they are taking care of their natural hair. The important thing about this article is that Naija Husband TOTALLY embraces his wifes’ natural hair choice and that’s awesome. Check out the rest of his post here! This is funny. I am almost done transitioning, and my fiance was super supportive about it… Well, he was the one who actually insisted on it. I love my weaves and wigs, I just hate doing my hair; but he offered to pay for me to go to the salon for as long as I didn’t wear a weave anymore. When I suggested the idea of doing a big chop, he mentioned how he would lose the return on his investment if I cut all of my hair off- that sparked an interesting conversation. I still love him though 🙂

Thats great at least he is involved and supportive!

Aww that’s awesome! Good to see men actually supporting the natural look, as opposed to the ones who make nasty comments about it.
🙂

After 2.5 years of natural hair my husband had not grown to like it at all. He wants to know when am I finally going to get it done! I was hurt and angry I do my hair all the time so he really means go straight again. .In his opinion it looks unkempt in two stand twist. .
