“Did you get your mammogram?” asked my husband.
“No. When was the last time you had a physical?” I replied.
“I’ll get my physical…when you get your mammogram,” He said.
I said, “Bet.”
We’re concerned about each other’s health. However, each of us is not exactly doing what we need to do, personally, to ensure that we are the healthiest we can be for each other and for our kids. We both know that we definitely must do better.
We’ve made it our mission to promote healthy, successful relationships and build strong families. And, having good physical health is just as important to a healthy marriage as good communication and intimacy.
Good physical health is just as important to a healthy marriage as good communication and intimacy.
I really feel like we’ve dropped the ball in this area. Especially when it comes to promoting positive images of marriage, specifically in the African-American community, where the leading causes of death in our community are heart disease, cancer and stroke. Additionally, we know how devastating critical illness can be, not only to a couple’s finances but their intimacy and their relationship too.
So, I picked up the phone and I made physical appointments for both my husband and me. We’ve both committed to losing 20 pounds within the next 3 months.
This is why I am so happy to be partnering with CVS to promote the CVS Project Health events to help them spread the word about FREE PREVENTATIVE HEALTH SCREENINGS at CVS/pharmacy locations throughout the US; particularly in communities that have significant numbers of uninsured or under-insured individuals.
Thousands of people have learned more about their health after participating in the health screenings at CVS/pharmacy Project Health events. The screenings include:
- Body mass index (BMI)
- Blood pressure
- Glucose
- Total cholesterol
It’s free and convenient. And no appointment is necessary. You just have to do your part and just show up! Click here to see the locations and attend an event near you!
So the answer to the question: “What’s more important: being in love or being happy?” Well, my answer is: If you love me, you will be pro-active and take care of your health. They’re both important.
How are you being pro-active when it comes to your health? Have you dropped the ball in this area?
