Yesterday, I had the pleasure of flying out to Disneyland for the 5th Annual Disney Social Media Moms Celebration in Anaheim, CA. Needless to say, we had a long day, travelling from Georgia all the way to California. The night before a trip such as this, you are up until the wee hours packing…only to wake up at the crack of dawn to get to the airport at least 2 hours before your flight.
It was a long day and it was 3 PM PT by the time we checked into our hotel room (which is about 7 PM ET.) I was tired and hungry…but my 8 year old was on cloud 9 and ready to hit the streets of Disney. By the time we registered for the conference and attended the opening night ceremony and dinner, it was 8:30 PM PS (that is 12:30 AM ET to my body.) It was very chilly…probably in the 50’s, but we started out to ride some attractions anyway.
Why I would subject my cold, tired achy body to riding the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad two times in a row that night? Simply put….Disney makes my daughter so happy. And as a parent, there is nothing better than seeing pure unadulterated joy on your child’s face.
As I walked through the park last night, and watched so many other parents, it made be think of all of the ways that Disney brings out the best in parents. I saw:
- Parents doing whatever it takes to make their kids happy. It wasn’t about spoiling the kids…it was more about making memorable experiences that would last a lifetime.
- Parents working together as team in the parks. I saw Dads pushing the strollers and Moms holding hands. There is nothing more secure for children than when their kids work together to parent.
- Parents that have saved their money so that their kids can have this experience. Planning the ultimate Disney vacation requires most parents (that I know) to save. They are sacrificing and putting their money away in order to give their kids an amazing experience.
- Parents that are reconnecting with their inner child. Disney is a magical place for parents too. It’s a place where parents can set aside all of their day-to-day responsibilities and worries and be a kid again.
