We’re in the final stretch for the holidays. All of our major gifts should have been purchased or at least ordered by now and all travel plans set. Here are a few more last minute holiday travel tips to make your travels a little easier.
- If you are flying this holiday season, don’t wrap those holiday gifts! Wrapped gifts will trip an automatic additional search. TSA agents will un-wrap them to make sure they are indeed gifts. Even in ‘checked bags’ gifts will be unwrapped. Save yourself the time and hassle and mail your gifts. The drop dead date to get your gift to its recipient is December 20th for regular first class mail service. The last day to use ‘Priority Mail Service’ is December 21st. The last day to use ‘Priority Mail Express Service’ ensuring your gift arrives before Christmas Day is December 23rd. If you absolutely have to take your gifts with you on the plane, consider gift bags. They pack flat and are easy to assemble once you’ve arrived.
- Gas up the night before you leave! Whether you are driving home this holiday season or driving yourself to the airport, gas up the family car the night before. Don’t risk getting stuck in a long line at a gas station or delayed by additional traffic by gassing up that morning.
- Checking a bag? If you have to check a bag, don’t be tempted to overstuff, TSA agents will open it for inspection and sometimes they are often harder to re-pack taking up more valuable time.
- Keep your cool! Remember to stay calm, cool and collected at all times. Airline employees and TSA agents control your travel destiny and during the holidays they can make or break your travel plans if you react out of anger. Just don’t do it friends! (lol) Keep in mind they are working on the holiday instead of spending time with their families.
- Be prepared! Print boarding passes the night before or check-in via your airlines app or online. Don’t forget to give your cell phone(s) and tablets a full charge. Also remember to pack all of your cords, chargers and your portable power supply in your carry-on so you will never run out of juice.
BMWK – Remember the reason for the season. Enjoy!

I already experienced last minute trips where we have to make a reservation the day before the date that we are targeting. It is really hard but the trip was successful. Next time, definitely, we will be planning it beforehand.

Getting to the airport earlier than normal is also a way to relieve stress. I work at an airport and I see people stressed out all of the time. And if you check a bag, make sure you don’t put your medication in it, take a picture of your bag before you check it so that if it gets lost you can show the picture to the agent when trying to describe it. That makes a big difference.

Excellent blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers?
I’m planning to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there
that I’m totally confused .. Any suggestions?
Kudos!
