I can remember, just like it was yesterday, being almost 30 years old, pregnant with my second child and scared. I was literally scared to bring her home from the hospital. And when my mother told me she would not be able to visit me until 2 weeks after my due date, I cried. I didn’t tell her, but the thought of bringing that baby home from the hospital, without my mother, frightened me – because a new mother needs a support system.
I was literally scared to bring her home from the hospital.
My mother only came for a couple of weeks. But it was just enough time for me to get my bearings and to move forward confidently as a new single mother of two kids. And out of my four pregnancies, that was the only time I felt so alone and afraid like that.
With my first child, I was 20 years old and a junior in college. And although my mom was not happy about my choices, she was there with loving arms to guide me every step of the way after I gave birth – because a new mother needs to feel safe and secure. And a new young mother could definitely use some guidance. And my mom was there, every day, to give me what I needed, because I lived with my parents until I graduated from college.
Fast forward nine years, my boyfriend and I were expecting our second child together. And I decided to end that tumultuous relationship shortly after I found out that I was expecting –because a new mother needs peace of mind.
On paper, I had everything that I needed to be a great mother. I had a great job, a beautiful home, and I was already a great mother to my 9-year-old son. But I was a mess because I had just ended a 10-year relationship and, technically, this would be the first time that I was bringing home a baby to take care of — all alone. I was not in a good place as a woman and that surely impacted me as a mother.
But in the years following, I was in a new place in my life. I took some time to heal and focus on myself and my kids. And within 3 years, I was married (to a wonderful man) and pregnant with my third child (within six months of our wedding day). And then, we had our fourth child 1.5 years after that. And I never felt more excited to bring babies home from the hospital. I was older (in my mid-thirties) and I was in a good place. I felt more confident and sure of myself as a woman and a mother…. and being sure of myself empowered me as a new mother.
But, I also had an attentive, loving, caring, responsible husband at home. He was not only ready to take care of the baby when we came home from the hospital, but he was ready to take care of me too – because a new mother needs to be taken care of too.
So, I’ve been a young mother, an older mother, a dead broke mother, a financially well-off mother, a single mother, and a married mother. And throughout it all, my needs remained the same; I needed a loving support system and I needed to feel safe and secure. I needed peace in my home. I needed to feel confident in myself. And I needed all of that so that I could be the best mom that I could be for my new babies.
I think that is why I was so excited when I was invited to share BlueSmart mia – the newest innovation in smart baby feeding. It’s a high-tech system that tracks and analyzes your baby’s feeding intake and consumption patterns. It’s a product that will help you worry less because it alleviates anxieties surrounding baby feeding. (And I did not even tell you all about all of my anxieties surrounding baby feedings with my first two kids…those stories would take all day.)
The Modern Way to Feed Your Baby
How does it work? BlueSmart mia smart sleave precisely measures the amount of milk consumed by your baby and it alerts parents and caregivers in real-time. (As a working mom, I definitely could have used that.) It also offers suggestions on optimal feeding angles and temperatures and even alerts you when your milk has expired and needs to be discarded. It even connects to Wi-Fi…. Yes, Wi-Fi!!! It allows you to input feeding data on a mobile app.

I vividly remember worrying if my second child was eating enough when I left her with the daycare provider. Was she eating enough during the day? Is the daycare provider trying to feed her often enough? Those were questions that ran through my mind when I picked up my child and found so many unused bottles. A product like BlueSmart mia would have given me the peace of mind that I needed and could have helped my day care provider re-assure me that she was taking the best care of my baby.
The BlueSmart mia is available on BlueSmartmia.com , use code NEWMIA30 at checkout for $30 off throughout the month of February 2017. For more information, you can also visit the company’s Facebook page, or Twitter account.
