On July 10, 2015, I had the honor of launching and Co-Founding Black Biz Scope live on Periscope, along with Pamela Booker of Koils by Nature and Adeea Rogers of The Trendy Socialite.
If you’re not familiar with Periscope, it is the newest and most popular live streaming social media platform right now. It allows you to essentially create your own “TV channel” and broadcast to anyone around the world at any time.
Pamela, Adeea and I decided to use this platform to intentionally and strategically support and build community for black-owned businesses. We give black businesses the opportunity to share their business via live broadcasts on Periscope from 10-11 AM EST and 6-8 PM EST every Friday.
Since July 10th, we have featured over 250 black-owned businesses (uniquely owned, so none of these 250+ are multi-level marketing businesses). We have been featured on Huffington Post, Atlanta Black Star, Madame Noire, and most recently, Black Enterprise. We are committed to keeping as much of the black dollar recycled in the black community as possible.
Black Biz Scope has been as much of a blessing to me as it has to the hundreds of entrepreneurs who have been featured. I would never have known about half of these businesses had it not been for our community with Black Biz Scope.
Over the next several days, I will be highlighting excellent black owned companies where you can shop for your family and friends this Christmas season.
Today’s post features businesses where you can shop for the whole family. There will be a separate post for men, another for women, and still another for children. Yes, there are so many excellent businesses out here that just happened to be black owned. Why not support them?
Here are 8 Black Owned Businesses to Shop for the Home:
Inspirado:
I came across Inspirado in a Google search and boy did my heart leap when I found out they were black owned. The Founder, Alex Miller, set out to make premium products that incorporated beautiful design with powerful words.
We all know words are powerful. And you probably have similar products around your house. Now, you can shop Inspirado and know you’re supporting not only a small business, but a black owned business. And, this right here from his site says it all:
“Whether you want to grow your business or grow your soul, jump higher on the field or overcome obstacles in the workplace, Inspirado products will help be the voice providing that extra nudge that you need to achieve greatness.” Just for you: take an additional 15% off holiday sales using coupon code: MOMS2016
We Montage:
I first heard about James Oliver, Founder of We Montage, through Periscope. His product of taking your family photos and turning them into amazing wall art that you can easily move around is ingenious.
He has been featured on MarthaStewart.com, Today Show amongst other major media outlets. His mantra of “More love. More happiness. More inspiration.” is evident in his products. And first time customers automatically get a 20% discount! So if you’re looking to bring happiness, love and inspiration into your home, check out We Montage.
Naturally Me And You:
Whether you’re looking for eczema cream, dishwashing detergent, disinfectant spray, carpet cleaner or even wood cleaner – this site has you covered.
Founder, Rita Pardo has an expansive knowledge when it comes to natural products. So, if you’re looking for something for your home, chances are, you’ll find it here.
Products True:
There’s not much to say here other than, did you know a black owned laundry detergent company even existed?
Well they do! And I can say that as a customer, I am definitely satisfied with their product. The best part? This detergent is probably a lot cheaper than the one you’re currently using AND it doesn’t have any harmful ingredients.
Freedom Paper Company:
Once again…I bet you didn’t know there was a black owned paper product company.
From paper towels, to bathroom tissue, Kleenex, napkins and even trash bags (plus so much more), you can get it all right here from this Baltimore based company.
Purchase Black:
Brian Williams, CEO/Founder of PurchaseBlack.com is on a mission: to highlight excellent and exceptional businesses that just happened to be black owned.
Brian learned that there is a great opportunity within Black America to make a sustainable positive difference in the community through simply making it easy to support excellent Black owned businesses.
Timeless Treasures:
This is faith-based company that specializes in apparel, mugs, beaded handmade/hand stamp jewelry for the whole family. They also make custom girl headbands, and floral crowns.
The Dyna Smiles:
The demand for trendy and chic products that reflect people of color is steadily growing in the market place. However, finding such likeable and relatable designs still pose a challenge for today’s multi-cultural consumer. Check out the iphone case cover below.
To answer the call, Daveia Odoi of DNT Dynamite Design, LLC (a New Jersey based graphic design studio) created “The DynaSmiles by DNT”; a refreshingly delightful collection of high quality paper goods, everyday accessories, apparel and much more. And just for our BMWK family, they are offering a 10% off discount for their travel tumblers. Just use code: BMWK. It’ll be good towards the tumbler only and expires 12/31/2015.
