In the wake of the great heartbreak and tragedy that has plagued our nation with regards to gun violence, we the people cry out. While gun violence has transpired throughout our country, it is the violence in Chicago which seems to be taking up much of the media coverage. The homicide rate is skyrocketing as stories such as Shirley Chambers the mother who lost a fourth child to gun violence and Hadiya Pendleton, a 15 year old student murdered while hanging out in the park with her friends are all over the news.
“The President’s voice is so urgently needed here,” said Rev. Jesse Jackson during a Saturday march, according to The Guardian. “[That alone] would illuminate the condition.”
With reports of a shooting happening this weekend it is difficult to imagine what it might feel like to be one of the thousands of men and women who walk the streets of Chicago. Many of us know that each day we make it home is a blessing in itself; however, hearing countless stories of people who actually never made it home can rattle even the most faithful to their core. BMWK — Do you think it would help “illuminate the condition” in Chicago if the city was paid a visit by the President?
Beverly Frazier says
We need to stop waiting around for someone else to save us, to save our children, our community’s. We need to step up to the plate and come up with a call to action plan for our own communities; why don’t you come up with a plan like start a community center with general interest for the children and family’s to participate in, you also need to include job training for the teens, and parents, social skills training, also have training for how to complete job applications, how to interview, how to write a great resume’, and so on. We have got to stop waiting for someone else to save us. Once you come up with a plan of action, then you need to contact your community leaders to find out how they can assist you in applying for grants and get fund raisers going to fund this project. People will need to step up to volunteer to help in order to get this project going.
If you want to lower the rate of murders, robbery, and other crime in your city start with your neighborhood create; something good for people to do, start with the children save them from having idle time on their hand. Show the children that someone really cares about them; show them there is “Hope”. For without hope, we will continue to lose our children, please stop sitting on your hands, step up and show how much you really care. The President of the United States should not be needed to come and speak about something you can do for your own city.
If I were not battling major illness’s myself I would be out doing this in my own city, I see so much hate, so much anger in everyone right now it is killing our children, It is killing our cities. We need to stop whining about things and come up with solutions, a plan of action, then approach others for help.
