I used to believe the proper amount of balance couldn’t be achieved. If I put too much energy into a business or my daytime job, something would suffer. It could be my children or even my marriage. If either of those were negatively affected, it would be clear I was doing something wrong. It’s easy and natural to make our children the priority. Spending quality time with my girls was the easy part, what I had to make sure to also maintain was my love life.
What I quickly learned about balancing business and my boo was that the romance is what I needed to keep me going. It provides the energy and desire needed to keep the career engine running. Intimacy is relaxing and a great opportunity to release the stresses that come from working. The pressure is immediately diminished when I lay in the arms of my husband.
The moment I decided to register for an extensive Life Coach training program, I knew it would require a great deal of time away from my family. Would it be worth it and would it affect us all down the line, were all thoughts that ran through my mind. The joy of it all is that when I made that choice, my family was immediately on board and provided the support I needed. Having their support meant the world to me.
My business is important; it’s a major part of my life. I feel it is my calling and the reason I was put on this earth. But my children and my husband are my first priority. I want the business and career success but, I need the love and quality time spent with my family. Vacations with them have trumped business opportunities. My daughters’ important events have easily taken precedence over anything else. I never wanted to look back and have any regrets where my family was concerned. I am learning now to balance the two. One thing I do frequently is get my family involved in the business. They feel included and it counts toward the time I want to share with them anyway.
Ultimately, what I’ve found is that the more energy I put into the business, the more successful it becomes, creating the opportunity for me to work from home. This is truly my ultimate goal. In the meantime, I have decided to do what is necessary to grow my career but also keep my family and romance alive and well.
