Though I get what David Alan Grier is saying in his comedic commentary, I find it hypocritical on his part because of the brand of comedy he himself is doing on his new show. I have not been inclined to tune into it in the least bit and from the promos I have seen I am glad I have skipped it much like “D.L.” Hughley’s new show on CNN.
Chocolate News: Be Cool, Black People? This coming from a black man that found no problem doing Men On Films on Living Color back in the day and many other stereotypical skits?
I always thought David Alan Grier was an intelligent, talented performer but the directions he has chosen to go over and over again have left me feeling disappointed in his choices. All that theatre and stage training flushed away in many cases.
Some of the very behavior he is describing in his commentary for us not to do as black people, he himself has done right on his own show and in his canon of work!
I have said it before and I will say it again, the line between comedy, politics, satire is a very fine delicate balancing act. One can get it very wrong or very right.
It also makes me think actors and comics like DL and David will continued to get paid for just what they are doing now.

*rolls eyes*
it’s not that serious. Grier made a funny. the end. Take it at face value and move on.
I agree that his show is generally not funny and I haven’t watched more than two minutes of it in addition to the above clip.
He acknowledged what was done in the past by saying cool it until Nov 4th. But who will really take his advice seriously? We get the point. NEXT!

Not sure if the “white” side of me or the “black” side of me found that freaking too darn funny. LT you just have to look at the humor of it and what it is. I love watching the “George Lopez” show. I saw George’s stand up bit on cable and I do see him differertly but more funny than before. Dave Chapell is sterotype crazy funny. The one thing that I have found about “sterotypes” is they are usually true. Hubby and I were watching the news this morning and there was a shooting at our university. They gave a description of him, his height and weight. I told my husband that the guy is white. He asked me why am I sterotyping when they did not tell the name or the race of the man. I said he is at a university driving a Honda. Not sure if I was sterotyping or profiling or just watch too much tv. Not to say that black ppl don’t drive a Honda,
After watching a update of the news they gave the mans name. His name is “white” which does validate my ‘profiling, sterotyping’.
When the “snipers” were gunning down ppl a few years ago, I did not expect them to be father and step son being black.
I am guilty of sterotyping ppl. I love David Allen Grier and have always thought he was ‘gay’. I found out he is married to an Asian woman and they have a child together.
