I can’t believe this is the last week of our 12 week challenge, can you? I’ve had a great time exploring ways that we can all establish healthy habits for our children. A lot of the emphasis over the past 12 weeks was on making sure that your children have fun in the process. Hopefully, if they enjoy themselves they’ll keep up these great habits that we discussed.
For our final week we’re going to discuss having fun during family meals. How many families still have family meals? We do. Eating together is something we make a conscious effort to do on a nightly basis and I really think it helps keep our family bond tight with the kids. When the kids first get home we’re still working and then they have activities after that. Dinner time is a period where they know that we’ll all be together and they’ll have the opportunity to have mommy and daddy’s full attention.
Below are a few tips that you can use to keep the family tight during dinner time:
- Get everyone excited about dinner, have the whole family in the kitchen to help prep dinner and talk about their day
- Let your kids pick out a favorite dish ““ like chicken nuggets ““ that they will enjoy but you will feel good about serving
- Give the small kids something to do too like getting napkins and placing silverware on the table
- Turn off outside distractions i.e. TV, computer and give your family your full attention
- Go around the table giving everyone a chance to talk so no one feels left out
