A teacher in St. Lucie County, Florida was recently fired for encouraging 6 eighth grade students to beat up seventh grader, Radravious Williams.
The incident was caught on tape and you can see the teacher pointing Williams out to the students. The students who beat up Radravious were once his friends but the teacher reportedly wanted them to teach him a lesson. Radravious was, admittedly, disrespectful to his teacher by telling her in class that he wished he could curse out a teacher. This is the “threat” that the teacher claims she received from Radravious that prompted her actions.
After kicking and punching Radravious, the six student picked him up, held him by the neck and walked him over to his teacher, Dru Dehart, so Radravious could apologize to her. Dehart’s remarks to Radravious were, “I’ve got my eighth-grade boys on you; you’re not so tough now.”
The incident happened in 2013 but it took a year to complete the investigation and for the board to unanimously decide to fire Dehart. She was terminated last week.
Dehart has yet to issue an apology to the student and his family. The Williams family is filing a federal civil rights lawsuit against Dehart for her actions.
