When you think of the holiday season a couple of fabulous images usually come to mind. For example ice skating at Rockefeller Center, the ‘National Christmas Tree’ lighting on the mall and Gaylord National’s ‘Ice’ holiday experience to name a few. If you are planning a family holiday trip to NYC, we have a few fabulous holiday experiences just for you.
Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree
Mark your calendar for December 4th that’s the day the big tree out back (as news anchor Brian Williams puts it…lol) comes to life. A NYC holiday tradition since 1931,the iconic tree will be turned on for the season during the official ‘Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree’ ceremony. Enjoy family fun, holiday music performances and more during the event from 7p-9p. I think the tree at Rockefeller Center is more popular than the ‘National Christmas’ tree on the mall. When you think of holidays in NYC you automatically think of that gorgeous decorated tree and the beautiful gold leaf statue watching over the ice skating rink. For you fun loving ice skaters, the ice skating rink is now open (thru March 31, 2014). For more information visit www.RockefellerCenter.com.
FAO Schwarz
A trip to NYC with kids would not be complete without a trip to the world’s biggest toy store. A 150 year old icon, the FAO Schwarz toy store is a kids (and big kids) dream! The iconic living ‘Toy Soldiers’ greet you at the door (you can also take a picture with them) and open the door to toy store heaven. The worlds’ biggest toy store is home to NYC’s biggest candy store ‘FAO Schweetz,’ and ‘Bookworld’ where kids can discover a new world in new and popular books. You will loose your daughter in ‘Dolls’ the largest collection of dolls from exclusive brands like ‘Madame Alexander’ and ‘Tonner.’ You can also have breakfast with a ‘Toy Soldier,’ learn how to bake/decorate cupcakes in the ‘Tastebuds Kitchen Cupcake Decorating Experience’ and have your face painted.
If you are going to treat the kids and yourself to a visit to FAO Schwarz you have to relive Tom Hanks fun scene from the movie ‘Big.’ The famous larger than life ‘Big Piano’ is still a major attraction at FAO Schwarz. So take off your shoes and start dancing on the keys! Pictures of your families ‘Big Piano’ experience are available for a fee. For more information on holiday hours and tours, please visit www.FAO.com.
The Rockettes
Any other trip to NYC would include a visit to Broadway but during the holidays you have to visit Radio City Music Hall to see the legendary high steppin ‘Rockettes!’ Tickets for the ‘Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular featuring the Rockettes’ are on sale now. Santa and the legendary ladies take you on a 3D thrill ride thru NY skies to the North Pole. You also love the Rockettes take on the ‘Nutcracker’ and the tribute to the first Christmas with the famous ‘living Nativity.’ For ticket prices and information, please visit www.RadioCityChristmas.com and www.Rockettes.com.
