Music has a powerful way of connecting people, especially when they love each other. In my marriage, music ministers to our union. It has prevented breakups. Helped in makeups. Released tension. And, inspired forgiveness. Similar to many couples, we have our pick of “baby making” songs and slow-dance favorites. I can’t imagine our relationship without music. It reminds us of who we are together and what we’ve been through. Whether it’s secular or gospel music, as long as it promotes positivity, we use it to better ourselves and our union.
Recently, my husband and I took a stroll down music memory lane by creating a playlist of our relationship journey. The fun part was spending days going back and forth trying to narrow down the songs. In some cases, we just chose entire albums or an artist. Take a look at our list below and then consider spending some quality time with your spouse creating your relationship playlist. I guarantee once you finish listening to the songs that made you laugh and cry together, you will feel like you’ve fallen in love all over again.

BMWK, how does music impact your relationship? Do you have a couple’s playlist? Can you all agree on what songs to list?
Music is a big part in my husband and I relationship. My husband is a gospel singer. When we meet it was at church and he was singing a song he wrote”Jesus is Coming” and he was singing it looking at me and I didn’t know him at the time. He sang with a group as a background singer. Now he sings with his own group the “Thomas Brothers” and not being prejudice they are awesome. They are in the studio now making their own cd. My husband sang me down the isle when we got married “Here and Now” by Luther Vandross, it was beautiful. He has a beautiful voice. My husband sings for God’s glory and I know and God know he is for REAL!!!
Yes of course, music is a definite part of our marriage ministry. We both LOVE music, and we have our own playlist, we add, and change it regularly. Gospel, Smooth Jazz, Pop, Rhythm & Blues, Rock, and Classical, and believe it or not some Country. We can agree on the songs mostly. Husband has suggestions such as Temptations, (Old School). I love it that we share music trends, and there are some he surprises me with!
I absolutely love this! My husband and I have songs that represent our journey together. This is a good idea. We’ll have to put our playlist together.
My husband and I currently do not have a playlist, but music is definitely a part of our journey. It does bring us closer and inspires out relationship a lot. We tend to like the same artists whether it be gospel, jazz or RnB so that just makes the connection/bond even stronger. Wow!
Thank you! Just yesterday I was trying to think up a good playlist for us. This really helps 🙂
yes, we have our own soundtrack – a few of the listed songs are on it – thanks for the article, enjoyed it much!
My husband and I have two mixed cd. We both came from singing family’s. He play’s a Les Paul guitar. He just sits sometimes on the stairs and plays soft music wile I cook.
Ron and I have to do this…we too have a long list of songs that have touched us, moved us and caressed us throughout our 20+ years together. Thanks Reverend & Dr. Johnson. You both are such inspirations and blessings to the Kingdom.
A shameless plug here for a friend who has an awesome album of Christian music about sex in marriage. You can listen at https://www.cdbaby.com/cd/angmusic .
