Critics of the controversial “reality” show “All My Babies’ Mamas’,” starring rapper Shawty Lo can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the show will no longer make its way to the television screen. All My Babies’ Mamas’, which was set to appear on Oxygen, was expected to follow Shawty Lo, his 11 children, and their mothers — all 10 of them.
On Tuesday January 15th, the following written statement was made to MTV news by an Oxygen network spokesperson:
“As part of our development process, we have reviewed casting and decided not to move forward with the special.” They continued their statement saying, “We will continue to develop compelling content that resonates with our young female viewers and drives the cultural conversation.”
MTV news reports that online petitions and threats to boycott were made as soon as the show’s pilot hit the Internet. For more on this visit MTV.
BMWK, what do you think prompted Oxygen to “pull the plug”? Do you think it was the right decision?
Blue Dove says
YES, it was the right decision! Enough already.

This goes to show the power of our voice. Over 40 thousand people signed a petition and many more wrote about their outrage. A lot people left messages on Oxygen’s facebook page. I for one am glad to see that it is not going to be aired.

I am so happy they pulled the plug on this…it was glorifying stupidity in my opinion and I definitely WOULD NOT have watched the show if it aired.

Yes!!! I am so happy to hear this. Many reality tv shows are concerned about the money they make from these type of shows but not the pschological and emotional inpact and damage that they cause to communities. That has a far more lasting affect. It poisons the minds of children and even some adults. Then this “garbage” is feed into the home and the home then becomes dysfunctional because of the negative images seen on tv. The cycle continues to contribute to broken homes in our communities.

Great decision. Use that air time to put on something positive & worthy, instead of a dude with a gazillion kids by a gazillion women. Hell, we can see that everyday in real time – why watch it in TV? Lol. And is that something he’s supposed to be proud of? Sheesh…..

I am actually disappointed..I was waiting to be entertained by this show..and him having children by multiple women is neither positive or negative. I don’t see black women rushing to put the bible outta of business meanwhile, every man in the bible had multiple children by multiple women?
Lisa G says
Every man in the bible, really? And do you really think these 11, soon to be 12, children get adequate attention from their father, Shawty?

I’m torn. On the one hand, it’s not my cup of tea. On the other hand, I would have been happy to have the show air and die a natural death. A petition seemed a bit overkill. Some of the show’s critics sounded offended by the mere existence of Shawty Lo and his family. Sort of like … “Get your ghetto butt back in the house and don’t embarrass the rest of us.” That bothers me. And, there’s plenty of disgusting junk on television, much worse than this, in my opinion. But, I agree with Blue Dove that it’s enough, already! Time to move on.

I come from a family made up of 13, 10boys 3girls made by 7 different women and we were very close and still are……if you raise them right and take care of them right there is no dysfunction except that you know when something is not working and you walk away, not from the children but from the adult who is causing you trouble…….we were all raised together, went camping every summer all of us together and we are all still very close as adults……..who says a man with multiple baby mothers cant be a wonderful father….coming from a female who had that kinda father….
