Ruby Robinson, a graduate of Columbia University’s Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, was surprised at her graduation ceremony on Monday when her father unexpectedly appeared, greeting her with a bouquet of flowers on the ceremonial stage.
Army Captain Keith Robinson, a 25-year army veteran, did not think he would be able to make his daughter’s graduation. At the last minute, his general was able to help him off. Robinson, who is currently serving a second tour in Afghanistan, said he had not see his daughter since last December.
The young lady was overwhelmed by emotion when her father popped up and said, “congratulations, young lady.” She immediately broke into tears and by the looks of their embrace, you can tell how happy she was to see her dad. Ruby told the Daily News, “after I saw him I couldn’t stop crying.”
