Because we see so many negative stories and portrayals of black culture in the media, we here at BMWK love the opportunity to showcase our people in a positive light.
We’ve been troubled over the past few years to hear about the inner-city violence among black youths in Chicago. So, when this video came into our inbox, we jumped at the opportunity to post this for our BMWK readers.
The video shows the inspirational Urban Prep Academy in Chicago. The all-male high school has for the last seven consecutive years not only graduated 100 percent of its senior class but also the entire senior class has been admitted into a four-year college. This is in contrast to statistics from certain Chicago neighborhoods, which suggests 60 percent of black males won’t graduate from high school and only 6 percent will earn college degrees.
The boys were visited by the cast of BARBERSHOP: THE NEXT CUT, who shared their words of praise and encouragement for the graduating class.
