It’s been over two weeks since unarmed teenager Michael Brown was shot six times and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, MO. Today, the young man will finally be laid to rest.
Mike Brown’s funeral services will take place this morning just before 11am at the Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Al Sharpton will speak at the service and some in attendance will include White House officials and celebrities like Tom Joyner and Bishop T.D. Jakes. It is expected that over 4,000 people will attend the funeral services.
According to the Washington Post, the church hold 4,500 people and the arrangements are being paid for Alpha Phi Alpha, the nation’s oldest Black fraternity.
Igniting protests by citizens across our nation, the shooting of Michael Brown has sparked a painful national conversation about race, hate and ignorance that we have had one too many times without enough progress. It is my hope that the truth is revealed and Mike Brown’s family is able to find justice for the death of their son. May he rest in peace.
