With the holidays and the end of the year fastly approaching a lot of people are also starting to plan next year’s family reunion. A new trend in family reunions has become extremely popular: cruise ship family reunions or (jokingly called) floating reunions.
That’s right”...cruise ships have become one of the more popular options for family reunions. They are a great way to bring several generations of the family together while exploring exotic ports of call and enjoying a luxury cruise ship at the same time.
Reunion planners can rest easy because cruise ships have on board activities for everyone in the family. Most ships have several swimming pools, movie theaters, rock climbing walls, spa services, video arcades, kids programs, fitness centers and classes, yoga classes, and entertainment for everyone. Group tours in ports of call can also be arranged and incorporated into the package.
Another plus for cruise ship family reunions is that the ships have accommodations to fit any budget. From interior cabins, to suites, ocean view staterooms or family cabins for 4 or more guests, cruise ships have cabins in everyone’s price range.
Cruise ship are also our favorite type of vacation, all-inclusive. This means all meals, select beverages, accommodations, entertainment and on board activities are included in the price. By traveling as a group, the reunion qualifies for group discounts and rates making travel even more affordable.
With the collection of home ports expanding, there’s probably a departure port close to everyone in the family. Popular home ports include Miami, NYC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Seattle and Los Angeles.
One popular website that specializes in floating reunions is CruiseCheap.com. CruiseCheap.com works with all of the major cruise lines including Disney, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Celebrity. You can also contact your favorite cruise line directly to plan your floating reunion.

I’d LOVE to take a family reunion cruise but having hosted 4 family reunions and hearing family members complain about $50pp reunion fees it just isn’t realistic for my family. Maybe a small subset but not our whole family would be able to make this happen.

Aredrick – if my family can do it …yours can too. Start planning and taking deposits a year ahead of the cruise date. My aunt organizes the cruises for my family and other families and organizations. You should consider it.

I haven’t been to a family reunion but I would love to do one on a cruise! Maybe I can start planning a small get together slated for the next couple of years. It’d be a great vacation for everybody!

Yes, it will be a great family reunion. Limitless on ship activities, food, spa and someone else gets to handle most of the planning details and you and the fam just show up! I Love it…

You would be surprised how inexpensive a group cruise can be. In addition family members can spend about a year or so saving up for it. A great reunion requires good advanced planning so I do recommend you make use of an-up-to-date family reunion planner guide book that includes cruise tips, itineraries and the family reunion dinner program so that it’s truly a reunion and not just a family vacation.
