It’s that time of year again; time for the holiday event of the year…Gaylord National’s ICE! We attended the exclusive event Friday evening celebrating the lighting of the beautiful 60 foot tall glass Christmas tree, fireworks extravaganza and the official start of Christmas on the Potomac!
The 5th annual holiday event returns this year with a new theme, “ICE! featuring DreamWorks Shrek the Halls.” Two million pounds of ice are carved into the hilarious story of Shrek planning the perfect Christmas for Fiona and the kids. Shrek learns the true meaning of Christmas only after he goes thru a lot of chaos and commotion. Gaylord National’s ICE! also features a life size version of Shrek’s tree stump home, his beloved swamp, and a 40 foot long pink dragon. My favorite part of the attraction is the breathtaking Nativity scene that is absolutely beautiful. Let the kid in you come out on the exclusive ice slide (made of 5 slides). It’s amazing that all of this is carved totally out of ice.
Before attending the fun filled icy attraction, stop by the atrium to see the nightly tree lighting show at 6:30pm (FREE). Make it a family holiday and book one of the “Christmassy DreamWorks Experience” hotel packages. Two night stays start at $219 per night and include tickets to ICE! character meet and great, family scavenger hunt, ShrekFeast (breakfast with Shrek) and more. This definitely family fun for everyone.
Gaylord National’s ICE! is open now thru January 6, 2013. It’s the fun family event that you do not want to miss. To purchase your tickets, please visit www.christmasonthepotomac.com or call 301-965-4000. Military discounts are available. Tickets range in price from $22.99 (non-peak days) to $29.99 (peak days).
*We strongly suggest purchasing tickets in advance to avoid the long lines. Black out dates apply for military discounts*
