This month Disney Junior has joined in on the celebration of Black History Month with the debut of “We Are Doc McStuffins” interstitials. These interstitials feature Doc McStuffins the young African-American girl who “aspires to be a doctor like her mom,” as well as three “real life African-American female physicians. The “real life” physicians share what their jobs entail and salute their heroes.
Last year Doc McStuffins captured our hearts and the hearts of our little ones. The Disney Junior television series provided our preschoolers with a chance to turn on the television and see a child who looked just like them. Adding to the shows charm is the fact that viewers are able to learn valuable lessons including healthy eating and social skills.
“The interstitials feature three of the founding members of the “We Are Doc McStuffins” movement – Dr. Myiesha Taylor, an emergency doctor based in Dallas; Dr. Aletha Maybank, a pediatrician in New York City; and Dr. Naeemah Ghafur, a family doctor in Los Angeles who provides specialized care for the underserved, including the elderly and patients with high-risk illnesses.” Disney Jr. Press Release
