On Loop21, four young black stars were picked as the next big thing in Hollywood:
Let’s take a trip back in time, to the ’90s. What were you probably watching? “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” “The Cosby Show.” “Family Matters.” “Kenan & Kel.” “Moesha.” “A Different World.”
Now flash forward to today. How many shows can you name that feature young black actors that are currently on the air? The ’90s could have been considered the golden era for young black actors, as television used to be a lot kinder to those trying to make their way in Hollywood. According to Nielsen Media, African-Americans watch far more TV than any other ethnic group, so why are African-American parents still rejoicing every time they find someone on TV who looks like their kids?
But it’s not all doom and gloom. After a bit of a lull in the late 1990s/early 2000s, these five black youth are making waves and ready to go.
