I firmly believe in the power of taking a holistic approach to living a happier life. I think if one area of your life is way out of balance, it inevitably impacts the other areas of your life in ways you wouldn’t even imagine.
That said, your health is probably the area of your life that impacts everything else the most. From your ability to be successful in business, to being energized when spending time with your kids, to being enthusiastic about improving your marriage, poor health can stop it all from happening in a way that sits well with your soul.
When people think about ways to improve the quality of their marriages, making changes to their health and wellness habits is not usually the first thing that comes to mind, but it really should be on the short list of things you to do make your marriage stronger. If you are strong, the other things in your life that matter begin to improve.
Not convinced? Listen, I have been fat and tired, I have been thin and energized, and I have been somewhere in between. I can tell you with confidence that being thinner and healthy made my life better in every possible way.
So what’s the big deal? Why will focusing on your health make your marriage stronger? Here are 5 reasons why:
You feel stronger and more confident
Feeling strong and confident changes how you approach every interaction you have. It especially has an impact on how you interact with your spouse. When you feel strong and confident, you stop looking for someone else’s validation.
You stand tall and strong in who you are and you know what you are capable of. It doesn’t mean you don’t desire compliments and acknowledgment from your spouse. It simply means you no longer need it. When you stop looking to someone else to make you feel good about who you are, your relationship with that person improves.
You sleep better at night
Sleep is essential, and although I am no stranger to sleepless nights (the hustle is real), I am also very aware of the person I turn into after too many sleepless nights.
When you are constantly tired because you are not seeping well or enough, you end up being irritable, cranky, and hard to be around.
When you are well-rested, you are more pleasant to be around and easier to communicate with. By making self-care a priority and getting the sleep your body needs, the quality of the interactions you have with your spouse will surely improve.
You have more energy
Feeling exhausted does nothing for your attitude and it definitely does nothing for your sex life. Even if you are getting enough hours of sleep, if your health is in poor condition, that sleep probably isn’t quality sleep and you can still end up spending your day feeling worn out.
When you have more energy, you are able to give more to your marriage. The more you are able to give, the better your marriage will be.
You have more clarity
When you eat well and exercise, it helps you eliminate any mental fog you may be experiencing. Having mental clarity helps you address issues in your life from a more reasonable perspective, and that allows you to manage things before they get out of hand.
With a clear mind you can handle small issues in your marriage before they become major issues.
Your mood improves
When your health is not in order it can have a major impact on your mood. Not sleeping well, eating unhealthy foods, and dealing with unmanaged heath issues can all make you feel anxious, sad, frustrated and irritable.
If you make your health a priority, it can have a tremendous impact on your mood and your relationship with your spouse. When you feel stronger and healthier, it makes you happier, and that makes all the difference.
